since the 1980s, nGOs and the government have launched continuous efforts to combat the spread of HIV/AIds. the efforts mainly focused on individuals, access to health services and protection against discrimination. In the 90s the focus shifted to human rights approach to diminish individual and social’s susceptibility to HIV/AIds. efforts to combat HIV/AIds in the national level continue up to present led by national AIdP Prevention committee (KPAn).
Yet, there are some parts of society that have not fully seen and realized the dangers of the disease to individuals, families and society, should the spread of HIV/AIds continues. For this reason, Kimia Farma continuously makes efforts to appeal to the society the dangers of HIV/AIds. Hopefully the efforts will create even greater awareness to the dangers of HIV/AIds to individuals, families and society in general.

Understanding of HIV/AIDS
AIds (Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome) is an accumulation of symptoms of diseases due to the decrease of body immune system. AIds is caused by HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), which attacks and destroys body immune system. the virus can live in four of human’s fluids: blood, semen, vaginal fluid and breastmilk.

sejak tahun 2004, pemerintah memang memberikan subsidi penuh terhadap pengobatan penderita HIV. Hal ini merupakan langkah yang amat positif. sekarang, dengan diproduksinya obat ArV oleh Kimia Farma, kami merasa amat tertolong. sebab, berdasarkan pengalaman kami di lapangan, sepanjang 5 tahun tersebut banyak terapi yang akhirnya putus karena menggunakan obat import. Hal ini dikarenakan proses pengadaan obat tersebut cukup rumit, mulai dari bea cukai, izin import, hingga sampai ke tangan penderita HIV. since year 2004, the government had started giving full subsidy to the treatment of HIV patients. It was such a positive step, indeed. We feel very fortunate with the local production of ArV available in the market now. Based on our experience, there had been many patients during the period of five years who could not continue their treatment. this is due to the complex procedure of getting the imported drugs such the custom and import license. It was very hard for the HIV patients to get the drugs themselves. It should be noted that our latest therapy which took place at ciptomangunkusumo hospital has the success level of about 91.4%.
