Mathematics is a vital foundation for science, social science and technology. A student in mathematics can look forward professionally to employment in an industrial or financial firm, a governmental agency, or teaching in secondary, college or university institutions. Alternatively, a degree in the department can be regarded as the central component of a liberal
education, either for its own sake or as preparation for professional study in another field. Biomedical mathematics is designed to prepare the student for admission to medical school.
Prerequisite Coursework: 24 hours
Students should complete as many of the following prerequisites as possible during the first two years. Students must complete MAC 2311 and at least two other courses (with grades of C‐ or higher) to be admitted to the mathematics major; such students will have an opportunity to complete the remaining prerequisites once at FSU. Students who do not complete the minimum prerequisites may be admitted to the University, but not to the mathematics major.
