SPORT FOR KIDS

Paul Scott is the head teacher there. (2) ... He adds, ‘And we’re going to teach tennis and basketball, too. We’re also going to have other sports outside school. (3) ... ’
But what about the children who are not very keen on sport? (4) ... Paul says, yes. ‘Of course, not every child loves traditional sports, and we want to make sure that everyone has fun. (5) .... ENJOYING THE THRILL
Most people want a peaceful job, with no danger, but not Simon Addlington. Simon is a film
stuntman. He does all the dangerous things that the main actors don’t want to do! He’s jumped off a moving train, and he’s driven a car into a deep river. He’s also run into burning buildings and swum in the sea with sharks. ‘I don’t really get scared,’ Simon says. ‘I just feel very excited when I’m going to do something dangerous. I’m also careful. I only take risks if they’re necessary.’
Simon has had a lot of injuries in his job. He’s broken one of his legs, and he’s sprained his shoulder five times. He’s also burnt his arms twice, when he ran into a burning building for a James Bond film. But he doesn’t mind the injuries, because he loves his job. ‘It’s more interesting than working in an office!’ he says.

A SIMPLE LIFE
The Amish people in America live in a very simple, traditional way. They keep animals and produce their own food. They don’t use modern machines, and they travel by horse and cart instead of by car. The children haven’t got many modern things, like mp3 players or mobile phones.
So, what is life like in an Amish community? Sam, an Amish boy, says, ‘I quite like helping my dad on the farm, but sometimes I look at my friends with their laptops and I feel jealous. I want one, too! I’m interested in playing computer games and surfing the internet like everyone else.’
Claire, who is fourteen, is contented with her life. ‘I enjoy helping with the jobs around the house, especially making cakes and bread,’ she says, ‘and I love feeding the animals! My mum makes all my clothes, so I don’t go shopping.
That’s OK – my mum is really good! Some people think it’s strange because I don’t watch TV, but I don’t mind. Some of the programmes my friends watch sound quite boring!’

ALEXANDRA BURKE
Alexandra Burke was born in London in 1988, and she started singing when she was only five.
She first appeared on stage in Bahrain at the age of nine. She sang with her mother, who was also a professional singer. Alexandra enjoyed singing on stage and she wanted to become a singer.
She left school when she was sixteen and started a professional career in music. She worked very hard, and she also performed in some big concerts to raise money for charity.
She first entered the TV talent competition The X Factor in 2005. She didn’t win because the judges thought that she was too young to be a successful pop star. But they said that she was a great singer, so Alexandra entered the
competition again in 2008. This time she won!
Her first song, ‘Hallelujah’, was number one in Britain for three weeks, and more than a million people bought it. Once again, The X Factor had found a star, and, like Will Young and Leona Lewis, who were also winners of this
competition, Alexandra Burke became famous!
