Luke 21:25; Jer. 25:32

In Matthew 24, Luke 21, and Mark 13, Jesus lists the “birth pangs.” The KJV calls it the “beginning of sorrows.” Jesus is referring to the signs that occur before the end of time.

In Matthew 24 He mentions the beginning of the end starts with the “abomination of desolation” being set up. Before this are the birth pangs. These occur over time and are in full swing before the middle of the seven-year tribulation.

“You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.” Matthew 24:6-8

We don’t know all the details to these prophecies. These begin before the seven-year Tribulation starts, and continue during its first half. Jesus adds that the “gospel will be preached to all nations.” We have this added in the chart of the first 3.5 years of the Tribulation. Today Christianity is divided into over 158 denominations so we definitely have discord among the churches!

Hurricane Judgments We Should Expect

Towards the end time we should expect earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis. The waves of the sea will become very unpredictable.

“There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” Luke 21:25-26

In Jeremiah we are told one of the major judgments from God will be a huge hurricane that bounces from cost to cost destroying whole cities. This seems to take place during the tribulation, but may begin before the start of the seven years. This gives us reason to believe that hurricanes today may be small judgments of God for how nations treat Israel. This judgment may occur when the angels stop holding back the four winds after the 144,000 have been sealed. If this huge hurricane makes it impossible to navigate the ocean (or even fly over it), it could explain why Israel’s allies do nothing during the Gog-Magog invasion of Israel.

“And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, and all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the

desert, And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them… Thus saith the LORD of hosts, behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried;

they shall be dung upon the ground.” Jeremiah 25:20-26,32-33

Jewish Version of the Birth Pangs

The Talmud, the official writings of the Jews from AD 800, records the Jewish version of what the birth pangs will entail. Remember this is from apostate Jews who have rejected Jesus as the true Messiah.

Talmud Sanhedrin 97b gives ten signs that are called the birth-pangs of the Messiah. These are supposed to occur before the Gog-Magog War and the coming of the Messiah.

• The world will be in a state of complete degradation

• Truth will decrease and lies will prevail

• Inflation will be out of control

• The Jews will return to their biblical homeland and the desert will bloom

• There will be fewer and fewer wise and righteous people

• Many Jews will give up the hope of redemption

• The young will treat the old with disrespect

• Learning will be rejected because people will desire a life of ease.

• The whole world will turn against Israel

• The Jews will fight each other (the secular against religious)
