A menudo, las prótesis requieren este servicio sobre la base de una emergencia, pues parece que la fractura de dientes y la base ocurre en los momentos más inoportunos.
Muchas preparaciones son difíciles de unir correctamente, lo cual tendrá como consecuencia que no ajuste bien. Si se requiere un segundo proceso de curado mediante calor, se producirán cambios por que la resina vieja se ablanda por el calor. Estos cambios pueden causar alteraciones de la oclusión así como del ajuste de las prótesis sobre la superficie de asiento.
Así mismo, es conveniente advertir al paciente de los cambios.
16.1 Técnica para la realización de la reparación de una prótesis total.
1. Limpie los bordes fracturados de restos u otras interferencias, de modo que las 2 partes coincidan perfectamente. (Fig. 16.1 a)
2. Mantenga unida las dos mitades mediante una fresa vieja, que se pega a los dientes y a las superficies de la resina mediante cera pegajosa (Fig. 16.1 b, c), no coloque cera sobre la fractura. También puede unir las dos mitades con goma loca. (Fig. 16.1 d-f)
3. Coloque separante en la parte interna de la prótesis. (Fig. 16.1 g)
4. Vibre yeso con suavidad por palatino (superior) o lingual (inferior) para evitar formación de burbujas. (Fig. 16.1 h, i)
5. Separe el modelo de la prótesis. (Fig. 16.1 j)
6. Recorte el acrílico de los lados de la fractura de la prótesis (superior o inferior) y bisele los bordes. (Fig. 16.1 k, l)
7. Coloque separante en el modelo de yeso corriente. (Fig. 16.1 m)
8. Coloque la prótesis en el modelo y pincele con monómero las superficies cortadas y coloque acrílico autopolimerizable, mantenga presión digital por 15 minutos. (Fig. 16.1 n-o)
9. Recorte excesos. 10. Pula. (Fig. 16.1 p)
11. Colóquela en el paciente haciendo todos los ajustes necesarios de una prótesis total.
