Obviously, much of love magick is a subset of influence and persuasion magick. Be sure that you understand that chapter thoroughly, because we will be building upon some of the themes in that chapter here, starting with indi- rect influence. You will remember that indirect influence is work that you do upon yourself that makes you a more influential person overall, as opposed to direct influence, where you are working directly upon the mind of another person. Indirect influence, or inner attractiveness in this case, is vital for love magick. People who are looking for a love spell to make the girl or boy of their dreams turn up on their doorstep wile they remain a hapless slob are just fooling themselves. As we have pointed out many times so far: magick doesn’t work that way.
Looks
The biggest mental stumbling block that people have in attraction magick is the idea that they are somehow not good looking enough to attract the kind of people that they desire. I am not going to lie to you or feed you some bull
good looks. Some people are stunningly beautiful. Most of us are not. But that doesn’t matter.
Physical attractiveness only gets your foot in the door; it doesn’t keep you inside. Humor, sultryness, cockyness, wit—any one of these qualities can be cultivated to the extent that they more than compensate for being overweight or lacking stereotypically good looks.
If any of you doubt this, I only ask that you look at a photo of Dennis Kucinich and his wife Elizabeth. Go ahead and Google them. Got it? Okay. I rest my case,
That is not to say that you shouldn’t make the most of your physical appearance. If you are looking for a lover, or even just looking to put a bit of fire back into your existing relationship you should always make sure that you are groomed well, and that you are wearing clothes that fit your body type. If you can afford it, invest in a stylist and someone to advise you on what types of clothes look good on your body type. If not, pay attention to television shows likeWhat Not to Wear and read books about style. If you are scrawny, get to the gym and get some muscles. If you are overweight, diet and lose some of it. With surprisingly little effort you can increase your physical attractiveness in a short amount of time. If you do it, it will pay off not only in love, but in other relationships as well. If you can manage to dress in at least one item that is particularly unusual or striking, then it will help you stand out from the crowd and could even be a great ice breaker. If, however, you continue to look like an unmade bed, then its going to be that much harder to overcome it with magick. To misquote Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire: Help the magick, help you.
Confidence
More important than any other individual quality is confidence. Confi- dence has been called the ultimate aphrodisiac, but is sadly the biggest ob- stacle for most people when it comes to seduction. The confident Sorcerer projects a sense of purpose, contentment, energy, and detached intensity.
By detached intensity I mean that you are invested enough to devote time and effort to the person in front of you, but detached enough to walk away without hurt if things don’t go your way. Even very successful, rich, and other- wise self-assured people can have all their confidence stripped away when approaching a potential love interest, because of the fear of rejection. I have a two-step solution to this problem.
As in the influence chapter, we need to choose a type of persona to emu- late, in this case an archetypal seducer. Robert Greene, in his excellent book The Art of Seduction, lists various characters to take on: the Siren, the Natural, the Rake, the Coquette, the Dandy, the Charmer, the Star, and so on. You should think about your natural qualities and what type of person could use those qualities in seduction. Look to movies, books, and people in your life to find case studies from which you can learn. When you have shaped an idea of the type of character that you wish to be, perform the following invocation:
Summoning of the Seducer
Sound the seed syllable of Venus: η (the greek vowel eta, which is pro- nounced eh as in “bet”). The pitch should start high and end low. In this case, you should feel that the force begins to flow from the planet toward the sigil in front of you at the high pitch, and then into your body as the pitch deepens.
After the utterance of the seed syllable, invoke the following: Oh mother of love
Oh maiden of grace
I utter the sacred seed sound, And offer it in praise
Echo it back upon me
And bestow upon me your boon Of charm and appeal
And fascinate my gaze That all shall fall before me In devition and desire By the power of η (eh) By the grace of IAO Grow forth and witness!
At the conclusion of the invocation, use the pore breathing technique to absorb the energies of Venus. See hooked rays of light radiating from your heart that enter and draw toward you all that you find desirable.
Open your eyes and anoint your head, throat, chest, and hands with at- traction oil or similar condition oil to seal the invocation into the physical plane.
This invocation has an important second part. After performing this invo- cation, you should go out into the world and start flirting. Flirt with anyone and everyone that you find attractive. It could be he guy at the office, the barista at the coffee shop, whoever, just flirt. When you do so, remember the lessons on social proof, smiling, and openness of body language from Chapter 6.
