2007-2008 Saïd Business School Completing MBA Degree
University of Oxford, UK GMAT 750
1997-1998 Dell’Arte Int’l School of Physical Theatre Certificate, Physical Theatre 1991-1997 University of New Orleans, USA BGs Culture, performance, design Objective:
I am currently seeking a position in green design/design strategy allowing me to flesh out my leadership, personal, and design skills with further industry experience. This will culminate in combining my creative, technical, problem solving, making a positive difference, and leadership skills.
Overview:
I am currently an award-winning MBA Candidate at the University of Oxford, sharpening my leadership skills and business acumen. I previously used my managerial and strategic skills to build and maintain high-availability IT systems in Silicon Valley. My first career was in design, where I founded my own non-profit Art and Design Company. I’ve studied with world- class teachers in performance, finance, branding, criminology, customer insights, literature, and management. I can build a stage, optimize a supply chain, wire an outlet, and find a project’s NPV. I find bottlenecks in processes and understand & manage relationships between people. I am driven by beauty, elegance, and minimization of waste. I have strong leadership skills, from mentoring to translating between departments to keeping on top of a press conference, and the ability to handle stress in complex cross-functional roles.
Work Experience
2005-2007 Perlegen Sciences, USA [Genotyping and personalized medicine, privately held] Senior Systems Administrator
I architected and managed a “high data availability,” scalable IT infrastructure with a team of only three people, all while balancing budget and complex engineering requirements, and coordinating between operations, lab, bioinformatics, and Senior Management. I tightly coordinated our UNIX team of three to deliver the right solutions the first time and then keep the systems up and running.
• Argued and won for long-term expansion data centre capacity while reducing power usage, for both cost savings and green thinking.
• Achieved 99.99%+ uptime. (less than 18 hours total downtime per year)
• Constantly coordinated between departments of to optimize data usage in 40TB genotype database. This HA data was the core asset of our company.
• Showed foresight in implementation of network security plan ahead of SOX. 2001-2006 Black Rock City, LLC [Burning Man]
Systems Administrator, Sysadmin Team Lead (Part time)
I managed a diverse group of volunteers and paid staff across all departments, building the technology infrastructure to build a temporary city of 45000 annually. I was constantly challenged to come up with creative solutions, including linking a temporary community in the middle of the desert to the Internet, web casting the entire event, and a process to manage thousands of volunteers across the globe.
• Negotiated between external vendors and internal departments in cities around the globe to manage accounting and ticket sales process.
• Enabled live full-frame Internet video streaming and wireless access across seven square miles in the middle of the desert—10 miles from the nearest phone line.
2004-2005 LookSmart, Ltd, USA [Online advertising, public] Production Operations Senior Systems Administrator
My team of four people primarily operated the Business Intelligence system, requiring complex coordination across several departments, purchasing power, influence on company strategy, and sub-contractors. • Coordinated between BI, Engineering, Operations, and Sales to reduce bill time from 72 hours to under
24 – Saving the company $100K each month.
• Coordinated Windows, Unix, Operations, and Database groups to set up a new audit/authentication system to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley.
1999-2004 SquareTrade, Inc,USA [Online dispute resolution, privately held] Lead Systems Administrator
I was the fourth employee at this company, and built its technical infrastructure from the ground up. I managed often-conflicting requirements from all departments in a start-up environment and drove communications between Operations and Engineering, resulting in fast development/release cycles with higher operational uptimes. I supervised 5 people.
• Implemented open-source cutover saving 72% in annualized operating costs. • Led data centre change, resulting in 30% annualized operating cost savings. 1998-1999 TriStrata [Secure document handling, privately held]

• Analysed and implemented technical needs for Enovity, Inc. (Green building) 1995-1998 The Space Between, USA [Multi/interdisciplinary arts production nonprofit]
Founder, designer, producer
The Space Between grew out of a work that myself and several artists and designers were doing in New Orleans. I learned to work with large groups of people, negotiate, and find win-win outcomes in all things. I did everything here from PR to production to fundraising to graphic design to taking out the trash.
• Ran a quarterly sold-out multidisciplinary arts show at Positive Space Gallery. • Produced TranSForms, an international film project based on the work of Rodin. 1992-1998 Glen Mehn Design, USA [Theatre and Film]
