Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) are autonomous partnerships, integrating organisations from the education, research and business sectors, which carry out activities across the innovation chain, such as training programmes, work to bring research gains into the marketplace, and business incubation/acceleration. Each KIC focuses on an overarching societal challenge.

It develops education programmes tailored to provide future healthcare leaders and entrepreneurs, who will shape the future of European healthcare. The programme helps students and post-doctoral researchers raise their levels of expertise and employability. It also supports professionals and executives who wish to deepen their knowledge and

understanding of healthcare and its industry. Campus moreover reaches out to citizens and enables them to manage their own health.

Accelerator: EIT Health Accelerator propels promising ideas, startups and

entrepreneurs onto the market. It supports Europe’s premier innovations that tackle today’s healthcare challenges through three activity lines:

o The INCUBATE! activity line offers support for not-yet entrepreneurs or

scientists wanting to develop startups.

o The VALIDATE! line places emphasis on validating products and services,

using a network of Living Labs and Test Beds to give entrepreneurs the means to test products throughout the value chain.

o SCALE! activities focus on more mature startups and SMEs, to facilitate access

to tools and networks for financing and market expansion.

Innovation Projects: EIT Health Innovation Projects programme helps generate new ideas for healthcare, and gets these ideas into Europe’s healthcare system and into citizens’ lives to improve their health, wellness and quality of life. It carefully evaluates project ideas in order to support those that will have the greatest positive impact on healthcare. Ideas supported for the EIT Health Innovation Projects are multidisciplinary and contribute to at least one of Europe’s diverse healthcare challenges. They include areas ranging from lifestyle interventions and nutrition, to brain health and treating chronic diseases, to social care and managing risk of exclusion, to improving healthcare systems. Projects are categorised into one of two streams:
