Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Fremont, CA October 1, 2017

We begin this weekend the month of October! A month dedicated to Mary and of spe-cial devotion in praying the Rosary. Literally, the word Rosary comes from the Latin word “Rosarium” which means “Rose Garden” and the prayer becomes a "Crown of Roses" offered to Mary. Arch Bishop Fulton J. Sheen helps us to understand this mean-ingful devotional practice when he reminds us that the great Joyful, Sorrowful and Glo-rious mysteries are what he termed, “The brief description of earthly life contained in the Creed: birth, struggle, and victory. The Christian life is inseparable from the joys of birth and youth, the struggles of maturity against the passions and evil and finally the hope of glory in heaven”. Thus the Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because within it lays the awesome story of our salvation.

In 2002 apostolic letter “Rosarium Virginis Mariae” Pope John Paul II introduced the Lu-minous Mysteries – the beautiful mysteries of light – that focus on the public life of Je-sus between the events of the Joyful Mysteries and those of the Sorrowful Mysteries. The Rosary has become the layperson’s breviary or common man’s liturgy of hours. This private devotion for more than 10 centuries of Christian history, had formed and sustained the devotion to Mary and treasured underlining the teaching “through Mary we come to Christ”

Mary becomes the mediator and Guide in this our spiritual journey. May God through the intercession of Mary Bless us all!

On a different note, I would like to thank everyone who helped in renovating our Cate-chism Class rooms at our Church site, especially those who have donated their time and talent in painting and beautifying of the rooms installing the electrical & TV Connec-tions, Cleanup and retouch works.

Thank you all for your generosity and good will to make our facilities appealing to the needs of the community especially of the Faith Formation Program.

The Rosary has become the layperson’s breviary or common man’s liturgy of hours. This private devotion for more than 10 centuries of Christian history, had formed and sustained the devotion to Mary and treasured under-lining the teaching “through Mary we come to Christ”
