RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ASSISTANT:
“Seek the Lord while He may be found, call Him while He is near. Let the scoundrel forsake his way and the wicked his thoughts, let him turn to the Lord for mercy, to our God who is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.” The scripture readings at mass these past few weeks have put
great emphasis on forgiveness. We are invited to reflect on our ability to forgive others and ourselves. We are reminded to seek forgiveness from God and from others. Sometimes we tend to
pass quickly over one or another of these three. How important that I seek the forgiveness of God. Our act of contrition or acts of penance direct us to God’s mercy. Our willingness, not to bear a grudge or get even, but to understand someone else and say ‘that’s o.k.’ is life giving. I admit my own shortcomings and realize that I am not always right and need to say ‘I’m sorry’. Finally, I must
learn to forgive myself and not dwell on my wrongs, but get up and move on as a forgiven and forgiving person. Yes, forgiveness is the power I have in my hand and heart.
“¡Busquen al Señor mientras se deja encontrar, llámenlo mientras está cerca!
Que el malvado abandone su camino y el hombre perverso, sus pensamientos; que vuelva al Señor, y El le tendrá compasión, nuestro Dios,
que es generoso en perdonar. Porque los pensamientos de ustedes no son
los míos, ni los caminos de ustedes son mis caminos –dice el Señor–.” Las
lecturas de la biblia durante la misa en estas últimas semanas han puesto gran énfasis en el perdón. Se nos invita a reflexionar en nuestra habilidad de perdonar a otros y a nosotros mismos. Se nos recuerda buscar perdón de Dios y de otros. A veces tendemos a olvidar uno de estas tres cosas. Es importante que busque el perdón de Dios. Nuestro acto de contrición o penitencia nos dirige a la Misericordia de Dios. Nuestro deseo de no guardar rencor ni buscar revancha, sino comprender a alguien más y decir ‘está bien’, es inspirador. Admito mis faltas y me doy cuenta de que no siempre estoy en lo correcto y debo decir ‘lo siento’. Finalmente, debo aprender a perdonarme a mí mismo y
no quedarme rumiando mis errores, sino que debo levantarme y continuar como una persona perdonada y que perdona. Sí, el perdón es el poder que tengo en mi mano y en mi corazón.
Gesù ci svela quanto la sua logica sia diversa dalla nostra e la superi. Nella sua vigna c’è spazio per tutti e ogni ora può essere quella giusta. Così come ogni nostra situazione di vita deve essere la vigna che ci è affidata per curarla e metterla in grado di portare molto frutto e questo non per rinchiuderci egoisticamente in un ambito ristretto ma per riconoscerci, a partire dal concreto dell’esistenza, “lanciati sulle frontiere della storia”, per essere cioè veri evangelizzatori e missionari. Siamo tutti pronti a riconoscerci tra gli operai che hanno accettato l’invito della prima ora, ma quale potrà essere la chiamata che il Signore ci riserva per l’ultima ora, per la sera della nostra vita? Riconoscersi tra i chiamati alla salvezza deve significare renderci disponibili ad accogliere ogni chiamata, anche la meno gratificante, la più difficile e dolorosa.

SAINT JOSEPH'S SEMINARY
The Annual Seminary Collection, to be conducted the weekend of September 30 and October 1. Your support will provide tuition and room and board for more than forty seminarians of the archdiocese. It also allows us to continue our solid tradition of excellence in academically training and spiritually forming candidates for priesthood and
diaconate. In short, your support will help prepare young men who will inspire those letters of admiration that I receive daily
about so many of our great priests.
BIBLE STUDY
In the next few weeks an in depth study of the Gospel of St. John conducted by
Father James Villa
will be held in the Parish Center. All are welcomed to join!

WOMEN’S DAY OF REFLECTION
WITH FR. VILLA
Our yearly day of recollection with Fr. Villa is
Saturday, October 7th. The day's theme will be on
the Blessed Virgin Mary -- A Model of Spirituality. The day usually begins with arrival at
9 AM for coffee and donuts, etc.,
and ends with Mass at 2:30 PM or so.
(Please bring your own lunch, and bring a beverage if
you want something other than coffee or bottled water.) Please notify us ASAP if you would like to attend.
Space is limited. If you need a ride, please call 914-381-3801 or 914-391-6087. The cost is $30. However, Fr. Villa stressed that if someone were not able to afford that, they should
