These are some of the traditional hymns of Christmas.
The Church gives us 8 days (eighth of Christmas) to
cele-brate as if it were the same Christmas day, to deepen
and savor more this mystery of our salvation.
We will ponder and enjoy the wealth that God gives us
in his incarnation. He assumes our humanity so that we
can participate in his divinity. He comes to unite heaven
and earth, the eternal and the temporal, the heavenly
and the earthly, as that beautiful hymn of Saint Joseph
says.
And well, the whole world
looks at you and wonders,
Tell me how being a saint
and a carpenter come together.
The glory and the cross, the grace and the eagerness.
have God favorable and scarce the bread.
Saint Joseph, Patron of the Church, Custodian of Christ
and of us Church, in this year dedicated to you, we ask
you to intercede for us, so that we know how to take

Son algunos de los himnos tradicionales de la
dad. La Iglesia nos regala 8 días (octava de
navi-dad) para celebrar como si fuera el mismo día de
Navidad, para profundizar y saborear mas este
misterio de nuestra salvación.
Ponderemos y gocemos la riqueza que Dios nos
da en su encarnación. El asume nuestra humanidad
para que nosotros participemos de su divinidad.
Viene a unir cielo y tierra, lo eterno y lo temporal,
lo celestial y lo terrenal, como dice aquel hermoso
himno de San José.
Y pues que el mundo entero te mira y se pregunta,
di tú como se junta ser santo y carpintero.
La gloria y el madero, la gracia y el afán.

Basil was on his way to becoming a fa-mous teacher when he decided to begin a religious life of gospel poverty. After studying various modes of religious life, he founded what was probably the first monastery in Asia Minor. He is to monks of the East what Saint Benedict is to the West, and Basil’s principles influence East-ern monasticism today.
He was ordained a priest, assisted the archbishop of Caesarea—now southeast-ern Turkey—and ultimately became arch-bishop himself, in spite of opposition
from some of the bishops under him, probably because they foresaw coming reforms.
Arianism, one of the most damaging heresies in the his-tory of the Church which denied the divinity of Christ, was at its height. Emperor Valens persecuted orthodox believers, and put great pressure on Basil to remain si-lent and admit the heretics to communion. Basil mained firm, and Valens backed down. But trouble re-mained. When the great Saint Athanasius died, the man-tle of defender of the faith against Arianism fell upon Basil. He strove mightily to unite and rally his fellow Catholics who were crushed by tyranny and torn by internal dissension. He was misunderstood, misrepre-sented, accused of heresy and ambition. Even appeals to the pope brought no response. “For my sins I seem to be unsuccessful in everything.”
Basil was tireless in pastoral care. He preached twice a day to huge crowds, built a hospital that was called a wonder of the world—as a youth he had organized famine relief and worked in a soup kitchen himself—and fought the prostitution business.
Basil was best known as an orator. Though not recog-nized greatly in his lifetime, his writings rightly place him among the great teachers of the Church. Seventy-two years after his death, the Council of Chalcedon described him as “the great Basil, minister of grace who has ex-pounded the truth to the whole earth.”

Basil iba camino de convertirse en un maestro famoso cuando decidió co-menzar una vida religiosa de pobreza evangélica.
