This first Sunday of Lent focuses on the Temptation of Jesus. Like Jesus, every one of us is tempted to seek sinful pleasures, easy wealth, and a position of authority;
and is drawn to the use of unjust or sinful means to attain good ends.
Jesus is our model for conquering temptations through prayer, penance, and the effective use of the ‘‘Word of God.” Temptations make us true warriors of God by strengthening our minds and hearts. We are never tempted beyond the strength God gives us. Hence, during Lent, let us confront our evil tendencies with prayer (especially by participating in the Holy Mass,) with penance, and with the meditative reading of the Bible.
Knowledge of the Bible prepares us for the moment of temptation by enabling us to know Jesus more clearly, “to love Him more dearly and to follow Him more nearly, day by day.”
We need to grow in holiness during Lent by prayer, reconciliation, and sharing. We become resistant and even immune to temptations as we grow healthier in our soul by following the traditional Lenten practices:
Lent is time of preparation, finding time to be with God every day of Lent, speaking to Him, and listening to Him.
We prepare by intensive prayer. We prepare through frequent participation in the Mass.
Lent is the time of purification, repenting of our sins and renewing our lives; uniting ourselves with God both by the Sacrament of Reconciliation and by forgiving those who have hurt us while asking forgiveness of those whom we have hurt. We remove our faults and defects rather than others.
Lent is the time of participation, sharing our love with others through our selfless, humble service, our almsgiving, and our helping of those in need.
Lent is the time of proclamation, for in Lent, we
proclaim that “God who bought our forefathers out of Egypt with a strong hand and outstretched arms ” (Deut. 26:80) will bring us also to freedom through the cross of His son, for it was on the cross that freedom’s battle against evil was won. Throughout Lent we profess our faith, that, “Jesus is the Lord who died and rose from the dead.” (Rom. 10:9) With our active faith and fire within, Lent can offer us a new beginning and it is never too late to begin. Jesus welcomes us to experience the ocean of mercy and to be with Him forever.
Este primer domingo de Cuaresma se centra en la Tentación de Jesús. Como Jesús, cada uno de nosotros es tentado a buscar placeres pecaminosos, riquezas fáciles y una posición de autoridad; y es atraído al uso de medios injustos o pecaminosos para alcanzar buenos fines.
Jesús es nuestro modelo para vencer las tentaciones mediante la oración, la penitencia y el uso eficaz de la "Palabra de Dios". Las tentaciones nos convierten en verdaderos guerreros de Dios al fortalecer nuestra mente y nuestro corazón. Nunca somos tentados más allá de la fuerza que Dios nos da. Por eso, durante la Cuaresma, enfrentémonos a nuestras malas tendencias con la oración (especialmente par cipando en la Santa Misa), con la penitencia y con la lectura meditada de la Biblia. El conocimiento de la Biblia nos prepara para el momento de la tentación, ya que nos permite conocer a Jesús con mayor claridad, "para amarlo más entrañablemente y seguirlo más de cerca, día a día".
Necesitamos crecer en san dad durante la Cuaresma mediante la oración, la reconciliación y el compar r. Nos volvemos
resistentes e incluso inmunes a las tentaciones a medida que crecemos más sanos en nuestra alma siguiendo las prác cas tradicionales de la Cuaresma.
La Cuaresma es un empo de preparación,
encontrando empo para estar con Dios todos los días de la Cuaresma, hablándole y escuchándole. Nos preparamos mediante la oración intensiva. Nos preparamos mediante la par cipación frecuente en la Misa.
La Cuaresma es el empo de la purificación, del arrepen miento de nuestros pecados y de la
renovación de nuestra vida; de unirnos a Dios tanto por el sacramento de la Reconciliación como por el perdón a los que nos han hecho daño, y de pedir perdón a los que hemos herido.
Eliminamos nuestras faltas y defectos en lugar de los de los demás.
La Cuaresma es el empo de la par cipación, compar endo nuestro amor con los demás a través de nuestro servicio desinteresado y humilde, nuestra limosna y nuestra ayuda a los necesitados.
La Cuaresma es el empo de la proclamación, pues en ella proclamamos que "Dios, que sacó a nuestros antepasados de Egipto con mano fuerte y brazos extendidos" (Dt 26,80), nos llevará también a la libertad mediante la cruz de su hijo, pues fue en la cruz donde se ganó la batalla de la libertad contra el mal. A lo largo de la Cuaresma profesamos nuestra fe: "Jesús es el Señor que murió y resucitó de entre los muertos". (Rom. 10:9) Con nuestra fe ac va y el fuego interior, la Cuaresma puede
ofrecernos un nuevo comienzo y nunca es demasiado tarde para empezar. Jesús nos da la bienvenida a experimentar el océano de la misericordia y a estar con Él para siempre.

Check your car seats
Parents are — rightly — focused on car seat safety from the minute they bring their children home from the hospital. But as children grow up, things change. They get taller, they weigh more, the family may change cars or add siblings.
