Celebration of the Seven SacramentsJesus Christ instituted seven signs that give grace to all who receive them. They are offered for the seven moments in life when He knew we would need the help of special grace. In Confirmation, we are confirmed in the gifts of the Holy Spirit first given in Baptism. In the Eucharist, we receive the Body of Christ, the food we need for our journey through life to the Father. In the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, we receive the grace of healing, forgiveness and strength at a time when our own resources often fail. In Matrimony, God seals the love of a man and a woman with a grace so that their marriage can mirror the relationship between Christ and his Church; a relationship that is faithful, fruitful and permanent. In the Sacrament of Holy Orders, the grace is given for men to become another Christ offering himself and others as a sacrifice to the Father. Preparation is offered for the celebration of all these essential encounters with God. RDINARIO"Tengan cuidado de evitar toda codicia, porque aunque uno puede ser rico, la vida de uno no consiste en posesiones."
Este no es un mensaje que recibe mucha publicidad. Por el contrario, casi todos los mensajes que anuncian y que oímos viene de alguien que quiere ganar dinero de nosotros al vendernos bienes.
El mensaje que escuchamos fuerte y claro en los anuncios de televisión o de Internet o en vallas de carretera o la contraportada de revistas es que necesitamos que este producto o servicio nos haga feliz. Los vendedores profesionales están en el negocio de crear una supuesta necesidad y luego con la promesa de llenarlo con su producto. En la cultura actual, es difícil recordar que la vida no se trata de posesiones.
Pero en este Evangelio, Jesús nos recuerda que hay más en la vida que tener "muchas cosas buenas guardadas para muchos años." Todas estas cosas, ya sea ropa, dispositivos, equipos, decoraciones, centros de entretenimiento, o cualquier otra cosa, no hace ningún bien duradero, siempre y cuando "la noche de su vida no lo exigirá de usted." "Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one's life does not consist of possessions." This isn't a message that gets much advertising. On the contrary, just about every advertised message we hear comes from someone who wants to make money by selling us possessions.
The message we hear loud and clear on television or Internet ads or on highway billboards or the back cover of magazines is that we need this product or that service in order to be happy. Professional marketers are in the business of creating a supposed need and then promising to fill it with their product. In today's culture, it's hard to remember that life isn't about possessions.
But in this Gospel, Jesus reminds us that there is more to life than having "so many good things stored up for many years." All of this stuff-be it clothes, devices, equipment, decorations, entertainment centers, or anything else-does no lasting good if and when "this night your life will be demanded of you." Unlike the fool who spends all of his time, energy, and money building larger barns, we should focus our resources on becoming "rich in what matters to God."
This means cultivating virtue instead of vice. It means sharing our money with those in need instead of hoarding it out of selfish greed. The call is a challenging one, and countercultural too. But Jesus never said that the Christian way was the way of the world. As St. Paul instructs us in today's epistle, "Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly." Instead of falling for the marketers' messages, may we have the wisdom to store up our treasure in heaven.

IN OUR FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM
The RCIA program is for persons wanting to become Catholics or for Catholics who have not completed all of their sacraments of initiation, particularly Confirmation and Eucharist. Involving Young People in Sacred Liturgy is Good Stewardship Adapted from an article by Barbara Vite, Director of Parish Stewardship, Archdiocese of Milwaukee
Now that your teen or college age young adult has received the sacrament of Confirmation, isn’t it time to get them more deeply involved in the Mass? It is no secret that one of the best ways for a young person to nurture a greater love for the Eucharist is by a more active participation in the liturgy. The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry has sought for many years to encourage greater participation by young people in the Mass.
Involvement by young people can include such liturgical activities as: Extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, Ushers, Ministers of Hospitality, Lectors/Readers, Altar servers, Gift bearers, Cantors, Musicians, Choir members, Leaders for Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
As good stewards of the faith life of teenagers and young adults, let’s identify their gifts and invite them to a fuller participation at the table of the Lord. Get them involved. Make them feel as though they are welcome as mature, responsible stewards of the life of the parish family. They will be enriched by the experience, and so will the faith community.
Finding Community in Our Parish
It’s hard to think about it as we try to keep cool during the hottest time of the year, but we’ll be heading back to our routines before August is over. Most schools and colleges begin in August, and the back-to-school ads are starting to appear. Summer vacations will be winding down as the tomatoes and corn ripen. What does
“routine” mean in terms of our faith and our parishes? During the lull of early August, while the kids are getting in their last laps at the pool, it’s a good time to reflect on what we hope to give to our parish this year, and what we hope to get from our parish.
In society today, people yearn for community. But often, our extend-ed families live far away, our lives are busy and often divided between demanding jobs and children with demanding schedules. We barely keep up with social media and don’t find real community there. We neglect community and suffer from its absence. As Christian stewards, we try to keep our lives Christ-centered. We can’t do that without community. Our commitment to Sunday Mass at the parish isn’t enough to foster deep community there. We need more – and our parish needs more from us.
In the spirit of Pope Francis, find out about your parish’s social justice committee. Find out about the social outreach your parish does on behalf of the poor. Select a committee that calls to you, something that you feel passionate about and that could use your skills and commit-ment. Perhaps your parish has a book club that interests you or a prayer group that would foster growth in your spiritual life. What you will find is not just a chance to serve or grow, but a deepening friendship with people who share your faith and walk on a spiritual journey which demands companion- ship. What you find in parish involvement is community. A faith community is deeper than just the folks around the water cooler or the friends that meet for happy hour. A faith community asks more of us and gives us much more. The perfect place to find this com-munity is in your parish. Finding a small faith community within the parish strengthens you, it strengthens the parish, and it strengthens the Body of Christ. Take a fresh look at what your parish offers this fall, and a fresh look at what you have to offer your parish.

Directora of Corresponsabilidad, Arquidiocesis de Milwaukee Ahora que su adolescente o joven adulto ha recibido el sacramento de la Confirmación, ¿no es hora de involucrarlos más profundamente en la Misa? No es ningún secreto que una de las mejores formas para que un joven fomente un mayor amor por la Eucaristía es mediante una participación más activa en la liturgia. La Federación Nacional para el Ministerio Juvenil Católico ha buscado durante muchos años Fomentar una mayor participación de los jóvenes en la misa.
