A gain, what does it mean to be God’s ser- vant? The first reading tells us that it is all about our treatment of each other-- we are asked to treat each other with love--and it is THIS that God calls “holy.” Be Holy, love your neighbor as yourself! St. Paul takes it a bit farther--he reminds us that our bodies are the
“Temple of God,” for God dwells in us spiritu- ally...BUT, by the same token, God is present in every other “body” on the planet! All are holy-- even when they are doing terribly unholy things!
Even then, they must be treated with dignity, for we all belong to each other, and to Christ Who belongs to God. So, in belonging to each other we belong to God, and in belonging to God we belong to each other...so the Gospel tells us to
“Be nice!” “Go the extra mile, turn the other cheek.” This is NOT an easy teaching, as I’m sure I don’t have to tell you! And I don’t get it right most of the time...but we try, we simply continue to try. And we get the strength for suc- cess from the Sacraments, so come to Holy Communion today, and receive Divine Strength to be the “brother or sister” you need to be to those who are driving you crazy!

La primera lectura nos dice que todo se trata sobre el tratamiento de cada uno de nosotros– se nos pide a que tratemos a cada uno con amor– y es ESTO que Dios le llama “santo.” ¡Sean santos, amen a sus prójimos como se aman ustedes mismos! San Pablo lo lleva un paso más– él nos re- cuerda que nuestros cuerpos son el “Templo de Dios,” puesto que Dios vive en nosotros espiritual- mente… Pero, con el mismo sentido, ¡Dios está pre- sente en cada otro “cuerpo” en el planeta! Todos son santos- ¡Hasta cuando están haciendo cosas que no sean sagradas! Aún así, ellos deberían ser tratados con dignidad, puesto que todos pertenecemos a cada uno, y en Cristo Quien pertenece a Dios, y es en ser parte de Dios de que pertenecemos a Dios y a cada uno de nosotros… entonces el Evangelio nos dice que “¡seamos simpáticos!” “Vayan un paso más allá, den la otra mejilla.” ¡Ésta no es una enseñanza fácil, ya que estoy seguro que no te debería de decir para que lo sepas! Y hasta yo mismo lucho también… pe- ro intentamos, simplemente seguimos tratando. l Evangelio del día de hoy nos da un desafío, aunque es uno que se puede lograr, pero sólo con la ayuda del Espíritu Santo. ¿Te inclinas al Espíritu en tu vida? Se puede ver como una pregunta simple, pero no es así. Jesús nos dice que no podemos vivir su mensaje sin el Espíritu. ¿Y quién es este Espíritu? ¡Es Dios! Creo que Jesús sabía que éramos de cabeza dura y que teníamos que escuchar este mensaje varias veces para que comprendamos. NECESITAMOS A DIOS EN NUESTRAS VIDAS PARA QUE EN VERDAD SEAMOS FELICES. Sé que necesito que escuchar esto cada día. Pidá- mosle a Dios a que sea paciente con nosotros y que nos anime a seguir. Si vivimos sabiendo que Dios está en el timón, en verdad podemos hacer su trabajo y tener plenitud en nuestras vidas. Pidámosle a Dios por las gracias que necesitamos para cumplir esto.Gracias al comité que trabajó tan duro durante el Mes de la Historia de la Gente de Color. Si trato de nombrarlos, sé que se me olvidará un nombre, así que gracias a todos. Éste es un mes maravilloso y uno del cual nos orgullecemos.

oday’s Gospel gives us quite a challenge, yet it is one that can be done, but only with the help of the Holy Spirit. Do you rely on the Spirit in your life? This may seem like a simple question, but it isn’t. Jesus tells us that we can’t live out His message without the help of the Spirit. And who is this Spirit? It is God!! I think Jesus knew we were hard headed and needed to hear the message in many different ways before it would sink in. WE NEED GOD IN OUR LIVES IN ORDER TO BE TRULY HAPPY. I know I need to hear this many times a day as a reminder. Let us ask our God to be pa- tient with us and continue to prompt us on. If we live knowing that God is at the helm, we can truly do His work and find ful- fillment in our own lives. Let’s ask God for the graces we need to accomplish this.Thank you to the committee who worked so hard this month to celebrate Black History Month. If I try to name them, I know I will forget someone, so thank you all. This was a wonderful month and one that we can all be proud of.

Our lives are filled with moments that shape us in our relation- ship to God and others. How can Lent help us to become more aware of the ways God is meeting us on our everyday journey through life? How does the "extraordinary" try to break through to us? Join us for our first Lenten Soup Supper, March 10, with Fr. Mark Villano. He is the Chaplain at Marymount California University in Palos Verdes. He studied theology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and film at USC. He has worked in parishes, campus ministries, and at Paulist Pro- ductions here in Los Angeles.

ASTASTThe CRS Food Fast is a 24 hour retreat for youth. On March 21 & 22 the youth and Confirmation groups will be participat- ing in the Catholic Relief Service’s Food Fast. During our 24 hour retreat they will be fasting in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world who struggle with pov- erty and hunger.
We ask that you pray for them and please consider sponsoring them with a donation to assist the poor through Catholic Re- lief Services as we journey with the poor around the world.

It was beautiful to witness the Friend Family serving as a family.
Fletcher and Sammy helped make the sandwiches, bag the meals and pass out the Valentines treats and toys to our children guests. Satur- day S.H.A.R.E. meal program pre- sents such an awesome opportunity for parents to show and teach their children by their example how to be compassionate and to share their blessings quietly with some- one in need. Our family volun-
teers have recognized this and they come each Saturday to serve. We have Addie our college student who was referred to us by Mari.
Addie comes each week and is being touched by our spirit filled Saturday Ministry that serves not only food for the body but dignity, respect, love and hope for our guests. Laura our high school vol- unteer came for her required ser- vice hours and is trying to arrange her busy schedule to come back and serve. We pray and ask God to supply for the needs of our guests and He sends you our parish family and volunteers to be the needed blessing. We are apprecia- tive and humbly grateful.
