SUPERVISION OF GRADUATE STUDENTS AND POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS: From 1979, I have directed 20 PhD theses (all of them at UCM) and according Mathematics Genealogy Project (http://genealogy.math.ndsu.nodak.edu/index.php) I have 77 descendants. 8 of my former students are Full Professors (3 of them at the UCM).

INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES. In the UCM, I have been Director of Applied Mathematics Department (1986-1994) and Director of Functional Equations Department (1984-1986). Since my election, on 1997 as Member of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Spain, I worked hard to modernize and improve this Academy with many activities, as being the founder and main editor of the mathematics section of the Journal of the Academy (RACSAM, now in the JCR index and edited by Springer-Verlag). I was one of the responsible to host Profs. J.-L. Lions, H.

Brezis, H. Amann, A. Friedman and J.-P. Bourguignon, as Corresponding Foreign Academicians.

I was the promotor (jointly with H. Brezis) of an agreement (signed in Paris in June 21st, 2001) between the French and the Spanish Academies of Science, for the first time in the history of both Academies. I created the Instituto de Matematica Interdiciplinar of the UCM on 2006, being its Director since its creation (except 2009-2011).

MAJOR COLLABORATIONS: Responsible (jointly with J.F.Rodrigues) of the Programme of Free Boundary Problems of the European Science Foundation. Coordinator of the European ITN project FIRST (Fronts and Interfaces in Science and Technologies), funded in the FP7 with 4 million Euros (2010-2013), involving 14 entities from 10 countries (incl. relevant industries, i.e.

Siemens, Germany; Egis, France).

I was European Coordinator of the FP7-PEOPLE-ITN FIRST project (2010-2013), creating a network of training linking 10 partners and 4 associate members from academia and industry to develop the career of young researchers in the field of novel equations to improve image processing. The journal RACSAM created by me was, in 2015, the best mathematical journal of Spain according the ISI, The Spanish society of Applied Mathematics (SeMA), created by me on 1991, will organize the ICIAM 2019.

2. Actividad Docente

La mayor parte de la actividad docente la he desarrollado en la Universidad Pública de Navarra y, dentro de ésta, en la E.T.S. de Ingenieros Industriales. He impartido diferentes asignaturas de grado (primer y segundo ciclo) con contenidos de álgebra lineal, cálculo, ecuaciones diferenciales y en derivadas parciales, y métodos numéricos.

Además, he impartido cursos en diferentes programas de doctorado de la Universidad Pública de Navarra ("Estadística, Matemática e Informática", etc.) y titulaciones de máster ("Ingeniería Mecánica Aplicada y Computacional", "Modelización Matemática, Estadística y

Computación", "Iniciación a la Investigación en Matemáticas", etc.), todos ellos en ámbito de la resolución numérica de problemas diferenciales.
