Pastor’s Note
This weekend we celebrate Corpus Christi-the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. What a gift that our Lord left us that we may never be alone but always connected. In a time of division, fear and violence, humanity is of-fered a great gift of unity, consolation and peace. Invite a friend to our Masses this week-end. Its one of the greatest gifts they could receive.
We say goodbye to Msgr Jeronimo and PJ this weekend. Both have served our community in a difficult pandemic year and we thank God for them. Msgr Jeronimo will be enjoying his retirement with family and PJ will move on to the next phase of his discernment. You can leave your notes on the online message board on our parish website.

California reopening changes at SJV
Starting June 15, the COVID restrictions will be changed in the State and County. Our Bishop has asked us to move in phases for our reopening. Starting the weekend of June 19/20, Masses will be offered inside the Church and outside in the Pavilion. The school parking lot will be reserved for in-car participation outdoor Pavilion Masses. There will be no more Community Center Parking Lot Masses starting June 20. All Masses will still require masks to be worn. Social dis-tance inside the church will be maintained. Summer Vacation Camp
June 21st-25th
St. John Vianney parish catechetical office will be hosting a week-long summer vaca-tion camp for children in grades 1st – 5th. JESUS’ SACRIFICE AND OURS
In presenting the still-familiar four-fold “Shape of the Eucharist”—Jesus takes / blesses / breaks / gives (Mark 14:22)—Mark omits Matthew’s specification of purpose “for the forgiveness of sins,” and Luke’s “for the remem-brance of me.” But Jesus does recall the covenant, Israel’s liber-ation from Egypt’s slavery. And could the disciples—or we—fail to recall that, in Mark’s earliest vers-es, Jesus sits at table “with tax collectors and those known as sinners” (2:15)? Mark also emphasizes the Eu-charist as our participation in Jesus’ passion and pledge of our share in his future glory. Jesus had earlier referred to his disciples’ suffering as “drinking from the cup he would drink” (10:38–39). Soon he would beg his Abba to “take this cup away” (14:36). But while sharing the Eu-charistic cup, Jesus promises a day when he would “drink it new” (14:25): the cup of suffering and sorrow is not the last cup he—or we—will drink, the cup of the Garden of Agony will be transformed into the cup of the Kingdom of God. PRACTICAR LA RELIGIÓN Y SERVIR
A través de las Escrituras y la Tradición, la entrega euca-rística de Jesús de sí mismo nos desafía a participar más
frecuentemente en la Eucaristía (o esperar volver a hacerlo una vez que la pandemia pase) para convertirnos en una comunidad de amor abnegado que dé adoración a la presencia de Cristo en el Santísimo Sacramento y sirva a la presencia de Cristo en los demás. En la exhortación apostólica, La alegría del Evangelio (Evangelli Gaudium), el Papa Francisco exalta la presencia en muchas co-munidades de grupos dedicados a la oración e intercesión a la lectura devota de la Palabra de Dios y a la adoración perpetua de la Eucaristía. WORSHIPING AND SERVING
Through both scripture and tradition, Jesus’ Eucha-ristic self-giving challenges us who partake so fre-quently of the Eucharist (or hope to do so again once the pandemic is past) to become a com-munity of self-sacrificing love that both wor-ships Christ’s presence in the Blessed Sacra-ment and serves Christ’s presence in others. In his Apostolic Exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel (Evangelii Gaudium), Pope Francis praises the presence, in so many communities, of groups devoted to prayer and intercession, prayerful reading of God’s Word, and perpetual adoration of the Eucharist. But then Francis repeats Saint John Paul II’s warning that such personal devo-tion must never become a privatized,
individu-alistic spirituality that forgets the demands of charity or the implications of Jesus’ incarnation (EG, 262). As we receive Jesus’ body sacramentally in the Eucha-rist, so we should touch Jesus’ flesh compassionately in the suffering flesh of others (EG 270).
