Pastor’s Note
Happy New Year! What can we expect this year? This is the year Saint John Vianney turns 70 years old! We have grown so much in our community from the first days of Mass in the rectory with Father Cook. The SJV Community has grown in faith, encountered God, and served God in our households, in our students, in our sacraments, in our work of justice for the poor. We have withstood fires, pandemics, demographic shifts, transitions of leadership.
Whenever this pandemic is done, I know SJV will be there. In fact, SJV will be here way beyond the end of this pandemic. I think we ought to look way beyond the pandemic to help us live today. I start our anniversary year with a question for all of us--"What would you like your SJV home to look like in 30 years when we celebrate our 100th anni- versary?" In the next couple of weeks you will hear about the "SJV 75 Plan" from our Parish Council, Stewardship Council, Finance Council and School Advisory Council. The SJV 75 Plan is the vision of our parish and school when we turn 100 years old and the plan we hope to achieve within 5 years when we celebrate 75 years. I ask you to prayerfully consider what does SJV look like in 30 years with re- spect to our community deepening their faith in school, encountering God in our church, serving God in our campus. God has been with us. God is with us. God will be with us. With that in mind, let's start living the SJV 100.
Wishing you and yours the health, wealth and happiness that comes from God. Happy New Year!

¡Feliz año nuevo! ¿Qué podemos esperar este año?
¡Este es el año en que San Juan Vianney cumple 70 años! Hemos crecido mucho en nuestra comunidad desde los primeros días de Misa en la rectoría con el padre Cook. La comunidad SJV ha crecido en fe, ha encontrado a Dios y ha servido a Dios en nues- tros hogares, en nuestros estudiantes, en nuestros sacramentos, en nuestro trabajo de justicia para los pobres. Hemos resistido incendios, pandemias, cambios demográficos, transiciones de liderazgo. Y al finalizar esta pandemia, sé que SJV estará allí.
De hecho, SJV estará aquí mucho más allá del final de esta pandemia. Creo que deberíamos mirar mu- cho más allá de la pandemia para ayudarnos a vivir hoy. Empiezo nuestro año de aniversario con una pregunta para todos nosotros: "¿Cómo le gustaría que se viera su casa de SJV en 30 años cuando ce- lebremos nuestro aniversario numero 100?" En las próximas semanas escuchará sobre el "Plan SJV 75"
de nuestro Consejo Parroquial, Consejo de Corres- ponsabilidad, Consejo de Finanzas y Consejo Ase- sor Escolar. Les pido que conside- ren en oración cómo se verá SJV en 30 años con respecto a nuestra comunidad, profundizando su fe en la escuela, encontrando a Dios en nuestra igle- sia, sirviendo a Dios en nuestro plantel. Dios ha estado con nosotros. Dios esta con nosotros. Dios estará con nosotros. Con eso en mente, comence- mos a vivir el SJV 100. The Epiphany of the Lord
Gifts are everywhere at this time of year. Christmas gifts. Hostess gifts. Hidden gifts. Wrong-size gifts.
Unexpected gifts. Unwanted gifts. Unreciprocated gifts. And in today’s readings we hear about even more gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. But we know intuitively (or, one hopes, eventually!) that gifts are symbols of something much deeper and less tangible. The gift of God’s Son is, of course, at the heart of our Christmas festivities. We are not—and never—alone, because “God is with us.” (Thus the name Emmanuel.) But wait, that’s not all! The litur- gy reminds us over and over that this is a “holy ex- change.” As Christ came to share in our humanity, we come to share in his divinity. Los regalos están por todas partes en esta época del año.
Regalos de Navidad. Regalos de anfitriona. Regalos ocultos.
Regalos de tamaño incorrecto. Regalos inesperados. Regalos no deseados. Regalos no correspondidos. Y en las lecturas de hoy oímos hablar de aún más regalos: oro, incienso y mira.
Pero sabemos intuitivamente (o, esperamos, eventualmente) que los regalos son símbolos de algo mucho más profundo y menos tangible. El regalo del Hijo de Dios está, por supuesto, en el centro de nuestras festividades navideñas. No estamos - y nunca- solos, porque “Dios está con nosotros”. (De ahí el nombre de Emmanuel.) Pero espera, ¡eso no es todo! La li- turgia nos recuerda una y otra vez que se trata de un

What’s Involved in Being a Catechist?
As a catechist, you will plan and teach classes throughout the year with a co-catechist. You will have tremendous amounts of resources (printed, digital and human) at your fingertips to help you along the way. WHAT KIND OF GOD IS THIS?
Christmas is a season of abundance. Christmas cookies and car- ols. Parties and presents. Mangers and mistletoe. The same is true in our church. Within a period of nine days we celebrate Christmas, the Holy Family, Mary Mother of God, and today the Solemnity of the Epiphany. Truly an embarrassment of liturgical riches. (And we are not finished yet!)
However, for many people, Christmas is already over. Trees litter the curbside or make their way back to the attic. Presents are put away or returned. We prepare to go back to school or work. But as Christians we have barely dipped our toes into the profound mys- tery of a God who walks among us. What kind of a God is this whose kingdom is not limited by our borders, fears, expectations, or imaginations? Today’s psalm reminds us, “Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.” Diversity and inclusion are not new to God’s agenda Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
¿QUÉ CLASE DE DIOS ES ESTE?
La Navidad es una temporada de abundancia. Galletas navideñas y villancicos. Fiestas y regalos. Pesebres y muérdago. Lo mismo ocu- rre en nuestra iglesia. En un período de nueve días celebramos la Navidad, la Sagrada Familia, María Madre de Dios, y hoy la Solemni- dad de la Epifanía. Un verdadero cúmulo de riquezas litúrgicas. (¡Y aún no hemos terminado!)
Sin embargo, para mucha gente, la Navidad ya ha terminado. Los árboles están en la acera o vuelven al desván. Los reglaos se guar- dan o se devuelven. Nos preparamos para volver a la escuela o al trabajo. Pero, como cristianos, apenas nos hemos sumergido en el profundo misterio de un Dios que camina entre nosotros. ¿Qué clase de Dios es este cuyo reino no está limitado por nuestras fronteras, miedos, expectativas o imaginaciones? El salmo de hoy nos recuer- da: “Señor, todas las naciones de la tierra te adorarán”. La diversi- dad y la inclusión no son nuevas en la agenda de Dios.
