Drop Everything
"Jesus said to them, 'Come after Me.' " —Mark 1:17 Jesus is here. Drop everything. Imitate the Ninevites who stopped the workings of their whole society in order to fast, put on sackcloth, and repent (Jon 3:5). When Simon and Andrew met Jesus, they dropped their fishing business (Mk 1:18). James and John did the same thing in addition to leaving behind their father, Zebedee (Mk 1:20).
Because Jesus is here and will come again in glory, husbands should live as though they did not have wives (1 Cor 7:29), that is, they should at times temporarily abstain from marital relations so that they can pray and fast (1 Cor 7:5). Those who are weeping or rejoicing (1 Cor 7:30) should stop thinking about how they feel, because "the time is short" (1 Cor 7:29) and "the kingdom of God is at hand" (Mk 1:15, our transl). Moreover, those who are buyers and involved in the world's system (see 1 Cor 7:30-31) need to start financial planning for the time when a person will not be allowed "to buy or sell anything unless he was first marked with the name of the beast" (Rv 13:17). "The world as we know it is passing away" (1 Cor 7:31).
Christ has died. Drop everything. Christ is risen. Drop everything. Christ will come again. Drop everything. Jesus is Lord!

REFLEXIÓN DOMINICAL ¡Deja Todo!
"Jesús les dijo: ' Síganme' " (Marcos 1:17).
Jesús está aquí. Deja todo. Imita a los ninivitas que detuvieron el funcionamiento de su sociedad para ayunar, vestirse con ropa de penitencia y arrepentirse (Jon 3:5). Cuando Jesús conoció a Simón y Andrés, ellos dejaron atrás las redes de su negocio de pesca (Mc 1:18). Santiago y Juan hicieron lo mismo además de dejar a su padre, Zebedeo (Mc 1:20).
Porque Jesús está aquí y vendrá otra vez en gloria, los esposos deben vivir como si no tuvieran esposa (1 Co 7:29), es decir, deben a veces temporalmente abstenerse de relaciones conyugales para orar y ayunar (1 Co 7:5). Los que lloran o se regocijan (1 Co 7:30) deben dejar esas expresiones, porque "queda poco tiempo" (1 Co 7:29) y "el Reino de Dios está cerca" (Mc 1:15). Por otra parte, los que compran que actúen como si no poseyeran nada y los que disfrutan del mundo, como si no disfrutaran (ver 1 Co 7:30-31). Todos ellos necesitan iniciar planes financieros para el tiempo cuando la gente no podrá "comprar ni vender sin tener marcado el nombre de la Bestia" (Ap 13:17). "Porque la apariencia de este mundo es pasajera" (1 Co 7:31).
Cristo ha muerto. Deja todo. Cristo ha resucitado. Deja todo. Cristo vendrá otra vez. Deja todo. ¡Jesús es el Señor!

"How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? And how can men preach unless they are sent?" No one - no individual and no community - can proclaim the Gospel to himself: "Faith comes from what is heard." No one can give himself the mandate and the mission to proclaim the Gospel. The one sent by the Lord does not speak and act on his own authority, but by virtue of Christ's authority; not as a member of the community, but speaking to it in the name of Christ. No one can bestow grace on himself; it must be given and offered. This fact presupposes ministers of grace, authorized and empowered by Christ. From him, bishops and priests receive the mission and faculty ("the sacred power") to act in persona Christi Capitis; deacons receive the strength to serve the people of God in the diaconia of liturgy, word and charity, in communion with the bishop and his presbyterate. The ministry in which Christ's emissaries do and give by God's grace what they cannot do and give by their own powers, is called a "sacrament" by the Church's tradition. Indeed, the ministry of the Church is conferred by a special sacrament.

Nadie se puede dar a sí mismo el mandato ni la misión de anunciar el Evangelio. El enviado del Señor habla y obra no con autoridad propia, sino en virtud de la autoridad de Cristo; no como miembro de la comunidad, sino hablando a ella en nombre de Cristo. Nadie puede conferirse a sí mismo la gracia, ella debe ser dada y ofrecida. Eso supone ministros de la gracia, autorizados y habilitados por parte de Cristo. De Él los obispos y los presbíteros reciben la misión y la facultad (el "poder sagrado") de actuar in persona Christi Capitis, los diáconos las fuerzas para servir al pueblo de Dios en la "diaconía" de la liturgia, de la palabra y de la caridad, en comunión con el obispo y su presbiterio. Este ministerio, en el cual los enviados de Cristo hacen y dan, por don de Dios, lo que ellos, por sí mismos, no pueden hacer ni dar, la tradición de la Iglesia lo llama "sacramento". El ministerio de la Iglesia se confiere por medio de un sacramento específico.

Las lecturas de hoy nos invitan a cambiar nuestras sendas hacia el Señor escuchando su voz, y entonces a anunciarlo. La Palabra del Señor tiene el poder de transformarnos. En el libro del profeta Jonás, el Señor le dice a Jonás y a nosotros: "Salgan hacia la gran ciudad de Nínive y anuncienle el mensaje que les diré". Y la gente de Nínive creyó en Dios. Salmo: Enséñame tus caminos, oh Señor; enséñame tus caminos. En su segunda carta a los Corintios, San Pablo nos dice que "el mundo en su forma actual está pasando". En el Evangelio de San Marcos, Jesús proclama: “Este es el momento del cumplimiento. El reino de Dios está cerca. Arrepiéntanse y crean en el evangelio ". Luego pide a los pescadores que lo sigan. Los pescadores abandonan lo que están haciendo y lo siguen.

The readings today invite us change our paths towards the Lord by listening to his voice, and then to announce Him. The Word of the Lord has the power to transform us. In the book of the Prophet Jonah, the Lord speaks to Jonah and us: “Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and announce to it the message that I will tell you.” And the people of Nineveh believed in God. Psalm: Teach me your ways, O Lord; teach me your ways. In his second letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul tells us “the world in its present form is passing away.” In the Gospel of St. Mark, Jesus proclaims: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” He then calls on fishermen to follow him. The fishermen abandon what they are doing and follow Him.

he patron saint of widows, Paula
was a wealthy Roman widowed with
five children at age 32. Another
widow introduced her to St. Jerome,
a priest and papal secretary to St.
Damasus. Jerome became her
spiritual director, urging a life of
asceticism and charity. When he
learned she was fluent in Greek, he
enlisted her help in translating Greek
biblical texts for his new Latin
version of the Bible. Paula had
joined the circle of nobility-born
Roman women in Jerome’s orbit,
and followed him to the Holy Land
when he left Rome. She taught
herself Hebrew, and exhausted her
wealth building a monastery, three
convents and a hospital in
Bethlehem.

los 32 años era una rica viuda romana con
cinco hijos. Otra viuda le presentó a San
Jerónimo, quien era sacerdote y
secretario papal de San Dámaso.
Jerónimo se convirtió en su director
espiritual, instándole a una vida de
ascetismo y de caridad. Cuando él se
enteró que ella hablaba griego, le pidió
ayuda para traducir los textos bíblicos
griegos para su nueva versión de la Biblia
en latín. Paula se había unido al círculo
de mujeres romanas nacidas en la
nobleza en la órbita de Jerónimo y,
cuando él se fue de Roma, ella lo siguió
hasta Tierra Santa. Paula aprendió
hebreo por sí sola y agotó su riqueza con-
struyendo un monasterio, tres conventos
y un hospital en Belén.

In AD 406, at age 59, Paula understood that death was near. She seemed to hear the voice of
Jesus speaking to her in the words of the Song of Songs:
“Get up, my friend, my beloved, and come soon!
For, behold, the winter is past, the rain has ceased, it is gone;
show me your face, let me hear your voice,
because your voice is gentle, your face is lovely.”
To this she answered in the words of Psalm 27:
“The Lord is my light and my salvation, of whom I will be afraid?
The Lord is defending my life, who will I fear?
I am sure to contemplate the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living,”
and let herself go to death.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of
God is at hand; repent, and believe in the
gospel” (Mk 1:15).
These words are in no way a threat. On the
contrary, they are a blessed proclamation, a
joyful message. Each of us is invited to
believe in the “Gospel”: God’s authority is
brought close to His children. This is the
Gospel. And Jesus announces this marvelous
thing, this grace: God, the Father, loves us, is
close to us and teaches us to walk on the path
of holiness.
The Kingdom of God is certainly a great
strength, the greatest one there is, but not
according to worldly criteria. This is why it
never appears to have the absolute majority.
It is like leaven that is kneaded with flour: it
apparently disappears and yet, it is what
makes the dough rise (cf. Mt 13:33). He
described Himself as a “grain of wheat” that
dies in the earth, but only in this way can it
bear “much fruit” (cf. Jn 12:24).

PALABRAS DEL SANTO PADRE
"El tiempo se ha cumplido, y el reino de Dios se ha
acercado; arrepentíos y creed en el evangelio" (Mc
1, 15).
Estas palabras no son una amenaza en absoluto, al
contrario, son un anuncio feliz, un mensaje de
alegría. Jesús no quiere empujar a la gente a
convertirse sembrando el miedo del inminente
juicio de Dios ni quiere sucitar el sentimiento de
culpa por el mal cometido. Jesús nunca hace
proselitismo. Al contrario, simplemente anuncia el
Reino de Dios y la noticia que trae es la Buena
Nueva de la salvación, y a partir de ella invita a la
gente a convertirse. Todos están invitados a creer
en el "evangelio" Este es el Evangelio: la señoría
de Dios se ha acercado a sus hijos. Y Jesús anuncia
este evento maravilloso, esta gracia: Dios, el Padre,
nos ama, está cerca de nosotros y nos enseña a
caminar por el camino de la santidad.
El Reino de Dios es ciertamente una gran fuerza, la
más grande que existe, pero no según el criterio del
mundo; por eso nunca parece tener una mayoría
absoluta. Es como la levadura que se mezcla en la
harina: aparentemente desaparece, pero es
precisamente ella la que hace fermentar la masa (cf.
Mt 13,33). El Reino de Dios es Jesús mismo que se
parece a un "grano de trigo" que muere en la tierra
pero sólo así puede dar "mucho fruto". [...] Por eso,
cuando decimos "Venga tu reino" es como decir
"Ven, Señor Jesús". (cf. Ap 2,20).
