ONE LORD, ONE FAITH. Do you suppose the authors of the four Gospels were aware of today’s first reading from the second book of Kings? Of course they were. The prophet Elisha fed a hundred men with twenty barley loaves in order to prove God’s power. This same miracle, now multiplied by more people fed by fewer loaves, is attributed to Jesus in all four Gospels. In today’s passage from John we even have the detail that the loaves were barley, reminding every pious Jew of that miracle that Elisha worked. Yet Jesus went into hiding when they wanted to make him king. It is the passage from Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians that gives us the reason for this. The power of Jesus comes from God. It is not meant merely to feed us, or to provide one group with a king. There is one Lord, one faith, one God and Father of all who works through Jesus Christ and through us all.

The Preface Dialogue

“Lift up your hearts.” “We lift them up to the Lord.”

“Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.” “It is right to give him thanks and praise.” With this ancient dialogue we enter the Eucharistic Prayer, the heart of the Mass.

These venerable words have been part of the Christian liturgy almost from the beginning—by the time of Hippolytus of Rome (c. 215) they were already fixed in the liturgy.

Several times during the Mass the priest has invited us to pray. There is something different here. We are invited to be “lifted up,” to ascend, to climb the Lord’s mountain, as it were, to go to a new place for this most solemn part of the Mass. And we are invited to a new frame of mind, a sense of joy, of focused dedication:

our hearts must not be cast down, but lifted up, and lifted to the Lord. Why? Because we are going to give thanks—we are going to “eucharist!” It is right and just that we do this.

GOD WITHIN

God dwells in a secret and hidden way in all souls, in their very substance, for if God did not, they could not exist at all. —St. John of the Cross

Understanding the need for “likes”

Children and teenagers are spending more and more time connecting with their friends on social media.

Research shows that people are hardwired to find social interaction and communication rewarding, and on social media, rewards come in the form of “likes.” Although apps like Instagram have recently moved to change how

“likes” are seen on photos and videos, the drive to post something “likeable” is still there, and many users may feel the need to test boundaries to drive them up. It’s important for parents to understand the enticing nature of these apps, and to talk to their children and teens about internet safety and social media use.

Bendiciones.

P. Gerard Tyralla Mision Quillazu, Peru Dear Parishioners,

Using parish web site, I would like to share with you some pictures showing a progress we were able to make since my last vist at. St Pius X in September 2019. The pictures show three projects in our Mission Quillazu (The Apostolic Vicariate of St. Ramon) in the Central Rainforest of Peru:

1. Construccion of the new retreat center started in 2016.

2. Reconstruccion of the oldest, wooden Church in our area:

Our Lady of the Asumption started in 2018.

3. Repair of the rectory started in March 2019.

The Church has been reopened to the faithfull in October 2020 thanks to 4 resources we got: German Catholic Organization of Adveniat, your economic support in 2019, collection of several parishes of my diocese in Poland and numerous fundraiser of our parishioners in Peru. We are still struggling with the finishing of the third store of the Retreat Center and with second store of our rectory. It was necesary to fix its roof last year, because of some demages coused by heavy tropical rains.

The money we need to continue and finish those projects are aproximately 30 000 dollares. It is hard today to reach this goal due the pandemic and COVID’s protocols that reduce the participation of our people in the liturgy and social activities and consequently led to the budget’s cuts all over the world. In spite of those difficulties our parishioners contributed generously in campaign “Oxygen for Oxapampa”

last year. The goal was to gather 200 000 dollars to purchase and install a new plant of medical oxygen. Thanks to this initiative taken and let by the Catholic parishes of our deanery, we could save many lives since it has started operating and producing oxygen.

On behalf of my bishop and parishioners and thankful for your kindness and previous help, I would appreciate any kind of support your might give to us, so we may continue and finish our projects and may cover also our pastoral needs.

The second collection for my mission was scheduled for Sunday, August 8th. Thanks a lot in advance. I ensure my prayers and ask God to pour out his blessings upon your families and lives. God bless.
