Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.

Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied.”

— Luke 6:20‑21a

FEELING BLESSED. Congratulations! Welcome to the Kingdom! Rejoice and leap for joy! Sounds a little like Easter, doesn’t it? Well, in a very real way, it is. This Sunday, the scriptures remind us that we are blessed and beloved, especially when we have difficulties and don’t feel especially blessed. Jesus reminds us that God blesses us in our trials, so we should trust in the saving power of God. We are “raised from the dead,” as it were, each time we arise from our hardships. The ultimate proof of all of this is our new life in Christ, who died so that we could be free of sin, and was raised from the dead so that we might all have new life. Wouldn’t that be something? A new life, in which poverty is riches and sadness is transformed into lightness of spirit? It’s a topsy- turvy world, isn’t it? Do you feel blessed today?

SENTIRSE BENDICIDO. ¡Felicidades!

How to help children cope with school shootings in the news. School shootings are in the news often, and children can understandably develop major fears about them. Keep up with what your children are talking about

— if they seem to be focused on school shootings, it can be helpful to talk about these types of violence in a balanced context.

For more ideas about how to discuss this with your children, request a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Helping Young People Cope” at lacatholics.org/did-you-know.

Page 8 St. Pius X Church February 13, 2022 Pope Pius X was known for his firm demeanor and sense of personal poverty, reflected by his membership of the Third Order of Saint Francis. He regularly gave sermons from the pulpit, a rare practice at the time. After the 1908 Messina earthquake he filled the Apostolic Palace with refugees, long before the Italian government acted. He rejected any kind of favours for his family; his close relatives chose to remain in poverty, living near Rome.

After his death, a strong cult of devotion followed his reputation for piety and holiness. He was beatified in 1951 and was canonized on 29 May 1954.[8] The traditionalist Catholic Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X is named in his honour, while a statue bearing his name stands within St. Peter's Basilica; and his birth town was renamed Riese Pio X after his death.

Pope Pius X quotes and sayings:

“If there were one million families praying the Rosary every day, the entire world would be saved.”

“Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to Heaven. There are others: innocence, but that is for little children;

penance, but we are afraid of it; generous endurance of trials of life, but when they come we weep and ask to be. The surest, easiest, shortest way is the Eucharist.”

St. Pius X held a daily novena in honor of Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos from January 25 and culminated on February 2 which is Her actual Feast Day with a Holy Eucharist and blessings of the candles and sacred images. It was followed by a procession of Her statue from the Church to the newly built grotto in the patio which will be Her permanent place of worship.

Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos is the patrones of Good Health and Good Decisions.

We thank you all who participated in the preparation and celebration of this special occasion. We also thank you for your donations for the building of the grotto.

Above - an electrical connection will be installed inside the grotto to illuminate it in the evening. When completed the statue will be put back in its permanent home.

Right - The grotto is located by the Church side door in the patio near the grotto of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
