Objetivos del curso /
Course objectives
By the end of the first year (L2) students should have reached a B2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The L1 course aims towards the acquisition of such language competence.
Students will practice writing short texts of a variety of genre types (personal blog entries, autobiographical compositions, narratives, reviews, letters, editorials) employing a variety of rhetorical functions appropriate for this level (describing and reporting events and experiences, debating, giving opinions and support, evaluating and justifying) within a number of personal topic areas (daily life, personal experiences, relations with other people, social events and issues). Purposes of the writing will include: referential, emotive, phatic, conative.
Towards the end of the semester, students are expected to have acquired an intermediate (pre-B2) level in the perception and production of a number of phonetic and phonological features of English which present special difficulties for speakers of Spanish, and in the comprehension of extended oral messages. They should be able to recognize specific phonemes in context, take dictation correctly and understand general and specific information from lectures in English.
Students will learn how to talk about the parts of English phrases (noun phrases, verb phrases, etc.). This competence will be drawn upon in later years of the degree. Additionally, through practice with problematic aspects of phrases, students will improve their writing and speaking abilities.
G1 To reach a good command of two foreign languages (at levels C2 and B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) whilst developing interpersonal, social and intercultural skills.
G14 To become an increasingly more autonomous learner, with a responsible, enterprising approach.
E5 To know the main characteristics of the languages studied in the degree, from a contrastive point of view.
E6 To know the formal and pragmatic use of human language.
E21 To avoid common errors of transfer between the languages studied in the degree.
E28 To develop the strategies for the effective presentation of papers and arguments in Spanish and in the foreign languages studied in the degree, both orally and in writing.
