The ISCIII participates in skills training and specialization programmes for new research- ers through research contracts or grants, in line with what is stipulated in the “Statute for trainee research staff” through:
• Training programmes for research staff such as FPI (MICINN), FPU (MED) and predoctoral training grants for healthcare research (PFIS) in the context of Strategic Action on Health.
• Programmes to hire researchers such as the subprogramme called “Technical Support Staff” for graduates and support techni- cians of the SNS.

Every year the ISCIII announces the offer of training grants in the context of the Ap- plied Field Epidemiology Programme (PEAC). These grants aim to provide updat- ing, advanced skills and training in activi- ties related to Epidemiological Surveillance and Applied Epidemiology which are of in- terest for the SNS, through study visits to the ISCIII in order to subsequently promote and spread this knowledge in their own sphere of influence.
The National Epidemiology Centre directs the training of the participants in this Programme.
During 2012, the ISCIII hired a total of 195 researchers through research projects in the National Plan in the AES grant pro- gramme, management service orders and/
or agreements.
Of these 195, 115 were hired with external fund- ing which mainly came from the management service orders of the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality, the Ministry of the Environ- ment and Rural and Marine Affairs, through Na- tional Plan projects, European Union projects and other public funding agencies as well as private entities. The other 80 researchers were mainly hired through projects funded by the AES and the intramural research projects of the ISCIII.

Por otro lado la incorporación de contratados como Técnicos Especialistas-FP2 procedentes de la Formación Profesional se realiza a través de diversas convocatorias, tanto públicas como privadas, así como a través de contratos asociados a proyectos.
Anualmente, el ISCIII hace pública la convoca- toria de subvenciones de formación dentro del Programa de Epidemiología Aplicada de Campo (PEAC). Estas becas tienen como ob- jetivo la actualización, perfeccionamiento y formación en actividades de Vigilancia Epide- miológica y Epidemiología Aplicada, de inte- rés para el Sistema Sanitario, mediante estan- cias en el ISCIII con el fin de que a su regreso sirvan de facilitadores y promotores de estos conocimientos en su ámbito de influencia.
El Centro Nacional de Epidemiología dirige la formación de los participantes en este Programa.
