Tbe preposition În 'in' is used with names of 10caIities when the speaker is in the same locality to which he or she is referring:
Domnul Hodoş este În Bucureşti
Mr Rodoş is in Bucharest (so is the speaker) Otherwise, la 'in', 'at' is used:
Domnul Hodoş este la Bucureşti
Mr Rodoş is in Bucharest (the speaker is not) In the dialogue Mr Ferguson asked:
Puteţi să găsiţi o cameră la un hotel la Predeal?
Can you tind a room at a hotel in Predeal?
He used la because he was in Bucharest when asking.
Remember that with names of countries only În can be used to mean 'in', irrespective of the speaker's location:
EI locuieşte În Anglia Note also:
EI merge În România but
EI merge la Bucureşti Similarly:
Re lives in England
Re is going to Romania
Re is going to Bucharest
EI vine din România Re is coming from Romania EI vine de la Paris Re is coming from Paris Do not confuse these examples with:

1 am from Romania 1 am from Paris
You may also have noticed the use of până 'until', 'by' in the dialogue:
Să vorbim la telefon până vineri Let's speak on the phone by Friday
Până can be used as a preposition meaning 'as far as':
de la A până la Z from A to Z
de la Arad până la Constanta from Arad to Constanţa din Anglia până În Franta from Britain to France Merg până la colt
rm going as far as the corner
Până când and până ce are almost synonymous with până 'until':
Stau acasă până când vine Ion rm staying at home until Ion comes
Până nu 'until' is used when the verb in the ma in clause is in the negative. It is also used to indicate a time limit by which an ensuing action might take place. In such cases pânâ nu is equivalent to
'before':
Nu plec până nu vine Ion I am not leaving until Ion comes Să mergem până nu vede ce·am făcut Let's go before he sees what we've done Finally, până să means 'by the time that':
Până să vină pompierii salvarea plecase
By the time that the firemen carne the ambulance had left
Time
Days of the week
The days of the week were presented in Unit 2.
When the day is qualified or indicates a regular or habitual occa
sion, the definite article is suffixed:
lunea on Mondays vinerea on Fridays
marţea on Tuesdays sâmbăta on Saturdays
miercurea on Wednesdays duminica on Sundays
joia on Thursdays
Other examples:
These are also written with small initial letters. Note that they are aU masculine:
11 martie (unsprezece martie) 6 septembrie

GEORGE: Just a moment. 1 think then that 1 will change the notes only. ['Il change the cheque later.
CLERK: Good, then you can sign the receipt for a hundred pounds, and take the money and the passport back.
