Most programs that require English 12 will also accept Technical and Professional Communications 12, English 12 First Peoples or an equivalent Provincial Level Adult Basic Education English. Communications 12 is not acceptable. See calendar for minimum grade requirements.
Applicants without English 12 can complete the Language Proficiency Index (LPI) exam to satisfy the English requirements of most programs at Okanagan College. Please check the Calendar for more details on this examination.
*Mathematics Requirements:
For students graduating in or prior to 2012, please refer to the Calendar for admission requirements. The province of B.C. has revised its mathematics curriculum which affects students who entered Grade 10 in or after 2010.
Regular Applicants: Regular applicants have secondary graduation (or equivalent) or are currently enrolled in Grade 12.
Mature Applicants: Mature applicants are at least 19 years of age and have been out of full-time secondary school for at least one year prior to
commencement in their program. Grade 12 graduation is not required (unless specified), but the applicant must satisfy all general and program-specific admission requirements.
Note: If no percentage grade is indicated for a course that is required for admission to a program (see below), the grade required is 50%.
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Bachelor of Business Administration Degree 70% in English 12*. 60% in one of Pre-

International Development Diploma: 60% in English 12*.

TRADES FOUNDATION
Grade 10 (Grade 12 is preferred) and satisfactory standing in a reading and mathematics test administered by Okanagan College.
Advanced Culinary Arts Diploma: 60% in English 12*. 60% in one of Pre-calculus 11, Foundations of Mathematics 11, or Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 11, or 16/25 on the Mathematics Diagnostic Test.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) M License: 67% in the following subjects: Grade 11 English or ENGL040, Grade 11 Math (Applications or Principles), or MATH040; and Grade 11 Science (Physics), or equivalent.
An applicant who does not have the above academic background is required to write an assessment in Reading Comprehension and Numbers Operations. A minimum grade of 77% is required for Reading Comprehension; 63% is required for Number Operations.
Applicants may also use resumes or supporting documentation of other courses completed, or may be required to participate in an assessment interview to determine admissibility. Work experience and transcripts of grades from subjects other than those listed above will also be considered for admission support.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) S License: 50% in English 11 or an ABLE reading
comprehension score of at least 83%. One of: Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 11, Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 11, or an equivalent Advanced Level Adult Basic Education Mathematics course or an ABLE mathematics score of at least 63%.
Collision Repair Technician: English 10. One of: Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 10, Foundations of Mathematics or Pre-Calculus 10, or an equivalent intermediate Level Adult Basic Education Mathematics course or an ABLE mathematics score of at least 50%. Culinary Arts Certificate: English 10. One of: Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 10, Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10. Satisfactory standing in a reading and mathematics test administered by Okanagan College. A medical examination confirming good health may be required.
Plumbing and Piping Trades Certificate: English 10. One of: Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 10, Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10, or an equivalent Intermediate Level Adult Basic Education Mathematics course or an ABLE mathematics score of at least 50%.
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic: English 10. One of: Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 10, Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10, or an equivalent Intermediate Level Adult Basic Education Mathematics course or an ABLE mathematics score of at least 50%.
Studio Woodworking Certificate: English 10. One of: Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 10, Foundations of Mathematics and Pre- Calculus 10, or an equivalent Advanced Level Adult Basic Education Mathematics course or an ABLE mathematics score of at least 50%. Trades Technology Teacher Education Diploma: 60% in English 12*. 60% in Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 12, or a minimum of 50% in either Foundations of Mathematics 11 or Pre-calculus 11. 60% in any Science 11 course. Welding Level C: English 10. One of:

Another pre-requisite to becoming an apprentice is to ensure you have the appropriate level of secondary school education. Many trades require a Grade 12 graduation with a minimum of Grade 11 math and sciences. Students entering Grade 10 should take Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 10. Electronic Engineering Technology Diploma: 60% in English 12*. 60% in Pre-calculus Grade 12, or a minimum of 67% in Pre-calculus Grade 11, or a minimum of 60% in Okanagan College MATH 120. Pre-calculus 12 is recommended. Applicants who do not satisfy any of these requirements may write the Okanagan College Mathematics 11 Challenge Exam and must receive a minimum of 64%. 60% in Physics 11. Physics 12 or Applied Physics 12 is
recommended.
Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma: 60% in English 12*. 60% in Pre-calculus 12, or a minimum of 60% in Okanagan College MATH 120. Network and Telecommunications Engineering Technology Diploma: 60% in English 12*. 73% in Information and Communications Technology 11 or 67% in Information and Communications Technology 12. 67% in Pre-calculus 11, or the equivalent Advanced Level Adult Basic Education Mathematics course, or a minimum of 60% in either Pre-calculus 12 or Foundations of Mathematics 12 or the equivalent Provincial Level Adult Basic Education Mathematics course, or a minimum of 60% in Okanagan College's MATH 120. Physics 11 or 12 is recommended.
Sustainable Construction Management Technology Diploma: 60% in English 12*.67% in Pre-calculus 11, or a minimum of 60% in either Pre-calculus 12 or Foundations of Mathematics 12, or a minimum of 60% in Okanagan College MATH 120. One of the Grade 12 mathematics courses is recommended. Applicants who do not satisfy any of these requirements may write the Okanagan College Mathematics 11 Challenge Exam and must receive a minimum of 64%.. The Mathematics requirement must be completed no more than seven years prior to enrolment. Water Engineering Technology Diploma: 60% in English 12*. 67% in Principles of Mathematics 11, or a minimum of 60% in Principles of Mathematics 12 or Applications of Mathematics 12, or an equivalent Advanced Level Adult Basic Education Mathematics course, or a minimum 60% grade in Okanagan College's MATH 120. Students without this requirement may write a Mathematics 11 Challenge Exam administered by Okanagan College and must receive a minimum 64%. 67% in Chemistry 11.
HEALTH AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
All applicants for these programs must submit a criminal record check. Additional requirements may include evidence of a negative tuberculin test taken within six months before application, Foodsafe certification, a physician’s report and first aid certification. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (years 1 and 2 with transfer into year 3 of the BSN program at UBC Okanagan): 70% in English 12*.Pre- calculus 11 or Foundations of Mathematics 12. Chemistry 11 or an equivalent Advanced Level Adult Basic Education Chemistry course. Chemistry 12 is recommended.
Two other approved Grade 12 courses (please see Calendar for a list of approved courses). Early Childhood Education Diploma: 67% in English 12*, or 26/40 on the LPI, or 50% in an English course at the 100-level or higher.
Human Service Work Diploma: 60% in English 12*, or 24/40 on the LPI.
Therapist Assistant Diploma: Option A: 60% in English 12*. Chemistry 11. One of: Biology 12, or BIOL 122 or BIOL 124. (Biology 12 or BIOL 122 is strongly recommended.) Option B: One of ENGL 100, 150, 151, or 153. BIOL 131 and 133. PSYC 111 and 121.
Certified Dental Assistant Certificate: 60% in English 12*. 60% in Biology 12. 60% in one of: Chemistry 11 or 12; Physics 11 or 12; Applications of Physics 11 or 12. Health Care Assistant Certificate (formerly HS/RCA): 60% in English 12* or Technical and Professional Communications 12 or a LPI score of at least four.
Practical Nursing Diploma: 70% in English 12*. 67% in Biology 12. 67% in either Pre-calculus Grade 11 or Foundations of Mathematics Grade 11 or a minimum grade of 70% in either Introductory Algebra 11 or both Math 084/085. 67% in a Grade 12 Biology course which includes human anatomy and physiology or an equivalent Provincial level Adult Basic Education Biology course and a minimum grade of 70% in Pre-Practical Nursing Anatomy and Physiology (PNUR 113). ENGLISH AS SECOND LANGUAGE
All applicants must take an assessment examination. Based on the results of this examination, applicants will be placed in the program level and courses, which will best suit their needs. International students must have a study permit.
