Over the past half-century or so, doctors have recog nized with growing clarity the p a rt played by th e mind in illness and health. The pressures of modern society, the need in the w est always to appear young and virile, the soul- destroying repetitive work of the machine age, have all com bined to damage the spirit and increase to intolerable limits the stresses borne by body and spirit. No one can yet tell precisely how the relationship between disease, mind, and body works; yet since the pioneering work done by Sigmund Freud, many have dem onstrated the dramatic changes th at can be wrought in a person’s health by probing and correcting problems in his mind. The stage hypnotist can raise a burn- blister by touching his subject with a pencil; equally, he can make th at blister go away simply by saying, “I didn’t burn you.” He has effected a cure—a cure th a t is ju st as valid as any w rought by Jesus or by Katherine Kuhlmann or by any other healer, even though he did not call on God to help.

have a particular nature, you will run your body in a certain way; this will cause it to have certain characteristics and be susceptible to certain diseases, by its very nature. Someone who was born six months away from your birthdate, th at is, on the opposite side of the Wheel, will have strengths and weaknesses complementary to yours. This is shown in Figure V -l, which is a cosmic wheel set out to show the diseases th a t are common to the various birthdate natures and the sign of the months whose energies will help those illnesses.

L et us take the case of Aries and Libra. These two months are precisely opposite each other on the wheel. Notice th at Aries is a high-energy sign; someone suffering from de pression or exhaustion or arthritis, for instance, can greatly benefit from Arian energy. Those diseases are most common to Libra-natured persons. The reverse is also true: Because the Aries nature is so high-energy, it tends to hypertension and fever, with associated diseases of the blood. The energy of the quiet, friendly Libra nature will cure these high-energy diseases. All you have to do, then, to help cure any illness is to locate it on your Cosmic Healing Wheel and see w hat energy is required to aid in the cure. All Nicholas did with the chil dren was encourage them to dance the dance of the animal which is opposite the one they originally selected; for in this way he balanced their energy and cured the diseases of their natures.
To bring into your life or into the life of a friend the energy you lack, all you need to do is follow the recommen dations we gave you in the very first chapter of this book. Even if you do not have symptoms of a particular illness, still if you bring into your life some of the energy from the sign opposite your own, you will feel refreshed and revitalized.
The Microcosm R eflects the Cosmos
Thy body is made up of m any p arts, and each p a rt is made u p of m any elements. Sim ilarly thy spirit hath m any natures. It is the combination of these natures which together give thee thy unique personality. The cosmos above thee also hath m any parts: stars and planets, asteroids, empty space; together all make up this and other universes. The energies that fo rm the nature of thy spirit come from the heavens above thee. The heavens make a perfect balance; in them nothing is out o f place. Thy spirit too m ust be balanced; and after thy spirit, thy body m ust be balanced. Thy body can be looked upon as a m inute cosmos, a microcosm that is a reflection of the great cosmos in which thou dwellest. As thou gazest a t the stars above, thou canst see the beauty and the sym m etry of

the handiwork of Allah; and it behooveth thee to be as bal anced in thy body and in thy life as are the heavens above thee. I f thou canst achieve a balanced spirit and a balanced body, success, vitality, and virility will assuredly be thine. Thus to achieve the balance thou needest in thy perfect body, thou m ust im itate the handiwork of A llah manifested in the heavens.
Thou wert bom under one p a rtic u la r arrangem ent of the heavens. Thou reflectest only one segment most strongly. Thus thy n ature is unbalanced, and unless thou correctest it, thou wilt be subject to the illnesses of thy nature. Thou canst not help what thou wast bom to be. But harken to my words: Thou canst bring in the energies which thy n atu re lacketh; and by bringing in these m issing energies, thou canst rebal ance thy spirit and achieve perfection of both thy nature and thy body.
