Presentations

5. Temporary Patio Program review –Economic Development staff

Ms. Armanini gave a presentation regarding the Temporary Patio Program.

Staff anticipate bringing a report forward July 12, 2021 to Council with recommendations to extend the Temporary Patio program to June 2022, in alignment with the Province’s adjustments. Ms. Armanini provided a general review of the 21 temporary patios that have been installed as a result of the Temporary Patio Program. Almost all feedback is positive, with only one patio drawing negative feedback.

The Task Force members provided the feedback that overall they are in favour of these changes being made permanent as they provide vibrancy to the street. Task Force members also noted that accessibility must be

maintained, and that there are significant differences in the types of patrons that are in a restaurant versus those who are in a pub, and how staff can approach that. Winterization measures were also noted as being necessary to review to ensure that temporary patios continue to be safe as the weather changes. One other point was to also look at signage reminding patrons to be quiet as they leave the patio.

Staff will prepare the Council report with this feedback in mind.

6. Meeting Schedule Moving Forward

The Task Force members recommended moving to a bi-monthly schedule moving forward.
