2 │September 27, 2020 Twenty Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Hello everyone!

This is a special weekend at St. Patrick parish. Our young people are being confirmed! Because we needed to limit group sizes, half the class was confirmed on Friday night by Bishop Jeff Haines and the other half on Saturday night by Bishop Jim Schuerman. What a gift for us that they could receive this wonderful sacrament and that our two auxiliary bishops were good enough to come out to preside over these events. Thanks!

With the Holy Spirit present sacramentally these days, we are reminded of the Holy Spirit Project we ended in August. A way to see that the Spirit is present, is by observing the results of his action. This is what St Paul calls the Fruit of the Holy Spirit. Any time we have been connecting to God and see an increase in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, goodness, gentleness and self-control, they show that the Holy Spirit is active. Our next parish project will work on these fruit, to ask the Spirit for them for our families, local community, country, church and world.

It has been neat to see that some of our local Whitewater high schoolers have promoted one of these fruits without even knowing it. On their internet site they show a picture of themselves with a note talking about the importance of “kindness”. Whether it is the virtue our young people have chosen to act upon or the fruit the Lord pours upon us, kindness and the other fruits are needed by all of us in these days.

Este es un fin de semana especial en la parroquia San Patricio. ¡Nuestros jóvenes están siendo confirmados! Debido a que necesitábamos limitar el tamaño de los grupos, la mitad de la clase fue confirmada el viernes por la noche por el obispo Jeff Haines y la otra mitad el sábado por la noche por el obispo Jim Schuerman. Qué gran regalo para nosotros que pudieran recibir este maravilloso sacramento y que nuestros dos obispos auxiliares fueran lo suficientemente buenos como para venir a presidir en estos eventos. ¡Gracias!

Con el Espíritu Santo presente sacramentalmente estos días, recordamos el Proyecto del Espíritu Santo que terminamos en agosto. Una forma de ver que el Espíritu está presente, es observando los resultados de su acción. Esto es lo que San Pablo llama los Frutos del Espíritu Santo. Cada vez que nos hemos estado conectando con Dios y vemos un aumento en el amor, el gozo, la paz, la paciencia, la bondad, la fidelidad, la amabilidad, la mansedumbre y el dominio propio, muestran que el Espíritu Santo está activo. Nuestro próximo proyecto parroquial trabajará en estos frutos, para pedirlos al Espíritu para nuestras familias, comunidad local, país, iglesia y mundo.

Ha sido genial ver que algunos de nuestros estudiantes de la secundaria local de Whitewater han promovido una de estos frutos sin siquiera saberlo. En su sitio de Internet muestran una foto de ellos mismos con una nota que habla de la importancia de la “bondad”. Ya sea que se trate de la virtud sobre la que nuestros jóvenes han decidido actuar o del fruto que el Señor derrama sobre nosotros, todos necesitamos la bondad y los demás frutos en estos días.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

October is the month of the most Holy Rosary and Respect Life month. Join us in prayer to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for greater respect and reverence for all human life. We will have Eucharistic Adoration on Tuesday, October 6, in the main church from 9:00 Am to 5:30

PM. There will be no sign-up sheet. Please call Mary Aleckson, 473-6163, to schedule a time. We do need someone present during the entire day. Please come and pray a rosary asking our Blessed Mother to help all mothers to choose life for their babies.

Selfless not Selfish

Ezekiel 18:25-28; Psalm 25: 4-5, 8-9, 10, 14; Philippians 2:1-11; Matthew 21:28-32

x The first reading challenges us to reconsider our own ways when we feel that God’s ways are unfair. When was a time you had to reconsider your own decisions or views? What did you learn from that experience?

x In the second reading to Philippians, we hear the call to selflessness: “Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory;

rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his/her own interests, but also for those of others.” How are you doing in your own life on this calling? Think of our world today. Are we more selfish or

selfless? Give examples of selflessness that you have seen in everyday life.

x In the Gospel, we find ourselves in the vineyard again. This time, two sons are answering their father about working. Which one can you most identify with? We also hear the familiar line: “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did.” Think about who these groups might be today. What sorts of things have

hardened our own hearts in responding to God’s call?

x En la segunda lectura de Filipenses, escuchamos el llamado al desinterés: “No hagan nada por rivalidad o vanagloria. Que cada uno tenga la humildad de creer que los otros son mejores que él mismo. No busque nadie sus propios intereses, sino más bien preocúpese cada uno por los demás”. ¿Cómo te va en tu propia vida con este llamado? Piensa en nuestro mundo

de hoy. ¿Somos más egoístas o desinteresados? Da ejemplos de abnegación que hayas visto en la vida cotidiana.

x En el Evangelio, nos encontramos nuevamente en la viña. Esta vez, dos hijos le están respondiendo a su padre sobre el trabajo. ¿Con cuál te puedes identificar más? También escuchamos la línea tan reconocida: “En verdad se lo digo: en el camino al Reino de los Cielos, los publicanos y las prostitutas andan mejor que ustedes. Porque Juan vino a abrirles el camino derecho y ustedes no le creyeron, mientras que los publicanos y las prostitutas le creyeron”. Piensa en quiénes podrían ser estos grupos hoy. ¿Qué tipo de cosas han endurecido nuestro corazón al responder al llamado de Dios?
