~ REFLECTION ~
We may no longer live in a society
dominated by agriculture the way that
ancient Israel was, but in the middle of
summer we can still relate to stories
about planting and growing seeds. As
we gather for worship today, let us open
our hearts to the images and stories we
will hear, so that the seeds of God’s love
may take root in our lives.
~ REFLEXION ~
Aunque ya no vivimos dentro de una
sociedad dominada por la agricultura,
como sucedía en el antiguo Israel, aun
así podemos identificarnos con las
historias acerca de sembrar y de arrojar
semillas, sobre todo en medio del
verano.
WHAT SEEDS ARE YOU PLANTING IN YOUR HEART?
Love, Fear, Happiness, Pain, Compassion, or Jealousy?
Your heart is like a garden and whatever you concen-trate on will be sown.
When we make a mistake or mess up, our natural reaction is to beat
ourselves up. We spew out hurtful and harmful words to ourselves, calling ourselves stupid or ignorant. It’s something we need to work on. We need to fight our own insecurities.
Imagine Jesus telling you,” I wish you would show yourself the same compassion and kindness you show others.”
Do you really want to have bitterness and pain sprout from your heart? I’m sure you want to be filled with love, compassion and kindness.
Are the seeds of doubt and resentment growing in your heart?
Start today and weed out what you don’t want in your heart. Just remember to pull everything out, including the roots.
The heart is like a garden. It can grow compassion or fear, resentment or love. What seeds will you plant there?
QUE SEMILLAS ESTAS SEMBRANDO EN TU CORAZON?
Amor, Miedo, Alegria, Dolor, Compasion, o Envidia?
palabras llamandonos estupidos o ignorantes.
Did You Know?
rotect againstpotential danger Taking a few precau-tions can help children learn to protect themselves against potential danger and ease parents’ minds. Teach children to memorize their full name, address, and phone number, so they can provide the infor-mation to an adult if they are separated from their parents or caregiver. Instruct children to look for a police officer or other “safe” adult (e.g., a store or park employee) if they need assis-tance. Teach them how and when to dial 9-1-1. For more tips, request the VIRTUS© article “7 Precautions to Take against Kidnapping,” from [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.
Sabia Usted?
