Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things Jesus finds himself today in his place of rest, Bethany, with 3 of his closest friends: Mary, Martha and Lazarus. For me, there’s something special about a scene where Jesus would have felt more free to be open and spontaneous with the people around him. In this house, he continues to be the Savior, the teacher, but he’s much more than that to these close friends.
Martha comes complaining to Jesus that the heavy burden of her high standard of hospitality has fallen completely on her, while her sister “sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.”
Lk 10:39 Jesus responds with great tenderness. He isn’t
ungrateful for the loving attention he receives in hospitality and he doesn’t tell her to take a seat to listen to him. Jesus simply communicates that while the perfect service, as far as he’s concerned, is expendable, the true necessity is the Word of God.
Martha and Mary have long been seen as representatives of the two charisms of the Church: active and contemplative. Both are necessary, and neither one excludes charity or prayer. Each one approaches the Christian lifestyle from a different perspective.
The Carmelite sisters, for example, place the utmost importance on contemplative prayer, while the Salesians often hold intense work positions in schools around the world. Jesus, nonetheless, gives clear preeminence to “sitting at the master’s feet”. The Word of God is the source of life we share in our service.
A house superior once approached Mother Theresa, her superior, asking for a reduction in the hours of prayer to be able to attend the dying more worthily. Mother Theresa responded by doubling the amount of prayer, claiming all their fruitfulness flows from their life of prayer.
This week, let’s take extra time with the Word of God, to recharge our spiritual life.

Marta, Marta, muchas cosas te preocupan y te inquietan
Jesús se encuentra hoy en su lugar de descanso, Betania, con 3 de sus amigos más cercanos: María, Marta y Lázaro. Para mí, hay algo especial en una escena en la que Jesús se habría sentido más libre para ser abierto y espontáneo con la gente que le rodea. En esta casa, sigue siendo el Salvador, el maestro, pero es mucho más que para estos amigos cercanos.
Marta viene a quejarse a Jesús de que la pesada carga de su alto nivel de hospitalidad ha recaído completamente sobre ella, mientras que su hermana "estaba sentada junto al Señor, a sus pies, escuchándole hablar". Lc 10,39 Jesús responde con gran ternura. No es ingrato por la atención amorosa que recibe en la hospitalidad y no le dice que tome asiento para escucharlo. Jesús simplemente le comunica que mientras el servicio perfecto, en lo que a él respecta, es prescindible, la verdadera necesidad es la Palabra de Dios.
Marta y María han sido consideradas durante mucho tiempo como representantes de los dos carismas de la Iglesia: el activo y el contemplativo. Ambos son necesarios, y ninguno excluye la caridad o la oración. Cada una aborda el estilo de vida cristiano desde una perspectiva diferente. Las hermanas carmelitas, por ejemplo, dan la máxima importancia a la oración contemplativa, mientras que los salesianos suelen desempeñar un intenso trabajo en las escuelas de todo el mundo. Farewell to our Parish Business Administrator Andrew Cortez
We would like to wish Andrew a blessed life as he contin- ues to go through a new path God has given him. Andrew served as the Parish Business Administrator for our parish.

In response to the recent overturning of Roe v Wade, the Diocese has created an initiative called Walking with Moms in Need. 2022-2025 Eucharistic Revival 2022-2025 Reactivación Eucarística
Starting in 2022 and for the next three years, every Catholic dio- cese, parish, school, apostolate, and family are invited to be a part of renewing the Church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
We have taken as the theme for the revival “That They May All Be One”. This expresses the hope of our Lord that all may be one in Him. It is our hope that this intense period of revival will lead to long lasting renewal in our diocese, parishes, and our own hearts as well all embrace more fully our Lord fully present in the Eucha- rist.
"A partir de 2022 y durante los próximos tres años, cada diócesis católica, parroquia, escuela, apostolado y familia están invitados a formar parte de la renovación de la Iglesia avivando una relación viva con el Señor Jesucristo en la Santa Eucaristía".

Good Memories from visiting our neighbors homes in paired Home Visit teams: En route to Laila’s home, SVdP volunteers shared their original calling for making home visits. Both had ob- served the passion of their spouse to serve those less fortunate, and desired the same experience. Laila had just brought her hus- band home from the hospital after an emergency operation. He suffers colon cancer. Laila wanted help with her utilities bill, but mostly needed to talk of the suffering of her whole family, her gratitude that a daughter had moved in with her two small chil- dren, to help with her father. Laila brightened up only when dis- cussing the job she loves at Meals on Wheels. Volunteers lis- tened, pledged an amount for utilities. Tears came upon receipt of HEB cards. Laila and the SVdP volunteers prayed for her hus- band and her whole family. SVdP volunteers told Laila that our ability to help her depends entirely on the generous donations our parishioners make to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Buenos recuerdos de la visitor a los hogares de nuestros vecinos en equipos de visitas domiciliarias por parejas: De camino a la casa de Laila, los voluntarios de SVdP compartieron su llamado original para hacer visitas a hogares. Ambos habían observado la pasión de su cónyuge por servir a los menos afortunados, y deseaban la mis- ma experiencia. Laila acababa de traer a su marido a casa desde el hospital. después de una operación de emergencia. Él padece de cáncer de colon.
