Suyo en Cristo, Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
We complete today the celebration of the very center of our faith. For almost 100 days (97 to be exact) from Ash Wednesday to Pentecost, we have focused on our very faith identity as Christians. The season of Jesus’ self-giving ministry and his death and resurrection ends with Pentecost, the gift of the Spirit for us. The creed speaks of the reason for the Incarnation:
“For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven.”
Yet everything was for us. Why did he live? For us humans and our salvation he lived. Why did he die and rise? For us. Why did the Holy Spirit come? For us. This reveals the character of our God. He is for us, for our greater good, for our salvation.
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, all enter into the world for us.
The gospel reading addresses the reality of Jesus’
departure; his physical departure will not be the end of his loving presence. He explains: “I will ask the Father to send another Advocate.” Jesus was the first Advocate; the Spirit will also come as another Advocate, helper, teacher, and guide. Because Jesus has a new life with the Father, he will continue in a new way with his disciples. He once was present through his earthly body; now he will be present through the Spirit. Physically present he was available only to those he directly encountered;
by the Spirit he is powerfully present to all people everywhere.
The letter to the Romans echoes gospel themes–
God dwells with us: Father, Son and Spirit dwell, live with always– they don’t just visit temporarily. We are caught up in the life of the Trinity– the Spirit gives life, children of the Father, heirs with Christ. Not poetry but reality!
The most important features of the Pentecost story are not the “special effects,” the fire and wind from heaven, but the transformation of the apostles. These men had all abandoned Jesus and denied him. After Pentecost they boldly proclaimed him.
At the end of our Pentecost Masses, we extinguish the Easter Pascal Candle and move it to the baptismal font. We extinguish the fire of the candle and hope that the fire of the Spirit will burn brightly in and through our lives. Like St. Paul challenges in the second reading: “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a Spirit of adoption, through whom we cry, ‘Abba, Father!’ The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him” (Romans 8:14-17).
Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
ALL FOR US
Yours in Christ,
¡No poesía sino realidad!

PASTORAL COUNCIL PASTORAL COUNCIL PASTORAL COUNCIL
The Pastoral Council (PC) is an advisory council to the Pastor.
Its job is to listen to parishioners’ concerns and ideas, frequently, through the ministry heads. Those ideas are brought
to the PC and the Pastor in monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of each month.
WHO ARE WE?
Some of the concerns voiced during the Synod were from the youth in our parish. In discussing how to possibly address them we discovered volunteers are needed to show up at meetings, bring snacks, listen to youth members and potentially mentor them with the guidance of Leader and Director of Youth Ministry, Alex Jesurun.
Please contact Alex if you can give a bit of your time to this urgent request: [email protected]
Other Synod related topics being worked are communications, mission speakers, disability awareness, more retreats and Catholic educational opportunities. One of our PC members runs Catholicism 101, a rich study over 10 weeks in short evening classes.
Scan the QR code to meet your council members, their assigned church activity and contact.
The PC will continue to address Synod concerns as they meet with ministry heads and parishioners in their assigned groups. Again thank you to all who participated in the Synod which has provided us with ideas and
energy through the Holy Spirit to make Saint Louis even more faith filled!
Please extend a warm Saint Louis welcome to Father Elkin who will begin his new assignment at Saint Louis on
Monday, June 6, 2022.
After 21 years working as a firefighter/paramedic/lieutenant for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, he retired 4 years early to
pursue God's call to the priesthood. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from St. John Vianney in 2015
and a Masters in Divinity from St. Vincent de Paul.
He has served at Our Lady of Lourdes, Miami; St. Timothy, Miami; Saint Louis, Pinecrest; Blessed Trinity, Miami Springs;
and most recently at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
As our beautiful Saint Louis Parish reaches 60 years in existence, we know it is time to refresh and renew some spaces. We will soon be undergoing the extensive and necessary repairs to the roof on our Main Sanctuary building, as well as other buildings on our campus.
Carpeting, pews, and windows will also need to be replaced to improve sound, comfort, and security. Please assist us in this endeavor so that together we can preserve our parish for many generations to come.Thank you for your prayers, support, and generosity.

WHO ARE SECULAR FRANCISCANS AND WHAT DO THEY DO?
The Secular Franciscan Order is a branch of the worldwide Franciscan Family established by St. Francis of Assisi almost 800 years ago. Our purpose is to bring the gospel to life where we live and where we work. We gather monthly to support one another through the ups and downs of daily life, pray together and take opportunities to learn about our Church, our community and our world.
Our rule mandates us to be involved in apostolic ministries and with youth.
Some of us are religious education teachers, have a special ministry to animals, have made a commitment to Perpetual Adoration, work with the poor and homeless, visit the elderly and the sick, and have youth ministries.
If you feel God is calling you to walk in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi,
come to our next meeting!
