Baptism: Fir st Saturday of the month at 1:00 PM. Parents must come to the Rectory with the with child’s original birth certificate at least one or two months in advance. Instruction is held on the Monday before the Baptism at 7:00 PM. For more information please contact the Rectory.

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME
Today we see Jesus sharing a banquet, as he was invited by a Pharisee. All Gospels have scenes in which the humanity of Jesus is invited to share in our humanity at table. In every occa-sion, Jesus shares his “special” food: his teach-ing. The Savior uses all circumstances to instruct us in the truth, even those banquets in which he is invited to be put to the test by evil doers. The message of salvation is for all those who search for life with a sincere heart. As an emblematic example, we may mention Zacchaeus. He was a tax-collector, and therefore hated by all the peo-ple. However, as he receives the forgiveness of sins from the Lord, he does celebrate it around a table. To share means to have enough humility to accept that one day we will be the ones in need – especially in need of love. The table represents the Kingdom of Heaven: those who are first will be last; and those who are last will be first. We have all been raised up with the idea that success is equal to happiness. This is why we always strive for being “someone.” Jesus invites us to enter in a particular grace he wants to offer us: to become a self-donation to humanity, each of us according to his vocation. Happiness is indeed communion and sharing of something good. The problem is that when we consider ourselves su-perior to the others, there is neither sharing nor love of any kind. Therefore, the “first place” be-comes indeed not only unprofitable for the King-dom of Heaven, but even an obstacle to it. Man, considering himself entitle to triumph, loses many occasions to find both the meaning of his life and his true identity as a child of God. When we love, we make God present and our identity, as man and women of God, flourishes into saint-hood. Let us then choose the banquet Jesus wants to give us. Let us then have a share into the joy of the Kingdom without being afraid of the plan of God.

DOMINGO VEINTEDOS DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO
Hoy vemos a Jesús compartiendo un ban-quete, invitado por un fariseo. Muchas veces el Evangelio nos muestra la humanidad de Jesús asistiendo a comidas ofrecidas por los seguidores de su mensaje. También acude a otra comida con gente que son más hostiles. Pues él no rechaza aquellas invitaciones que por curiosidad o por tenderle una trampa les hacían los escribas, fari-seos y publicanos que son enemigos de su mensa-je. Jesús siente la alegría de poder ofrecer su mensaje de salvación a todos aquellos los que lo buscan con sinceridad. Recordamos a Zaqueo el recaudador de impuestos, que era un corrupto y que era odiado por su propio pueblo pero después del encuentro con Jesús se convierte y devuelve el dinero ganado injustamente. Al renacer a una vida nueva, Jesús le dice hay que celebrarlo en torno a la mesa. En el evangelio de hoy vemos que Jesús es invitado por un fariseo y aprovecha la ocasión para proponer a los invitados el lugar que deben de elegir al sentarse a la mesa, la actitud del invi-tado debe ser de humildad. Es normal ver hoy que también en cualquier evento, que los invitados eligen los primeros puestos, o la mejor posición. El Evangelio nos dice en cambio que nos sente-mos en el último lugar: esto nos puede parecer como una simple norma de buena conducta. Esto no es así, porque nos introduce en algo básico de la vida cristiana que es la humildad. Una virtud difícil de entender porque va en contra de nuestras apetencias y nuestros deseos propios de protago-nismo. Hoy la sociedad tan competitiva y prepo-tente lo que menos busca es la humildad, porque hemos sido educados para triunfar - para el éxito. En el cristianismo al hablar de humidad nos re-cuerda la palabra de Jesús diciendo: “El que quie-ra ganar la vida la perderá, pero el que esté dis-puesto a perderla por mi causa la ganara”. Perder para ganar: esta es la disposición del que entiende la necesidad de hacerse pequeño para entender el mensaje cristiano. La consecuencia de ser humil-de ayuda a aceptar los planes humil-de Dios sobre noso-tros, y nos hace estar dispuesto a servir sobre todo a los más necesitados.
