Yum brands hit by slower China sales
January 7th, 2013.
HONG KONG (CNNMoney)
Shares of Yum Brands fell after the market close Monday as the company warned of slower sales in China following a controversy over food safety standards.
Sales at existing locations in China are expected to drop by 6% in the fourth quarter, the Kentucky-based company said in a brief filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Yum had warned last year of slower same-store sales in China during the quarter, but said Monday the decline would be more severe than previously thought. Shares were down more than 5% after the market close in New York.
The sharp drop in sales is due to "adverse publicity associated with a government review of China poultry supply -- and the corresponding significant impact on KFC China sales during the last two weeks of December," the filing said.
Chinese food regulators have said they are investigating claims of excess antibiotics in some chicken products sold at KFC restaurants, a revelation which sparked an outcry on popular micro-blogging platforms in China.

Voluntary GLOBALG.A.P. Association Membership Fee (ߡ Chapter 12)
GLOBALG.A.P. members benefit in many ways: they contribute to the governance of GLOBALG.A.P., participate in standard setting and decision making processes, and provide input for the benchmarking approval process. In addition to these active participatory rights, GLOBALG.A.P. members profit from a range of special services and discounts. GLOBALG.A.P. offers three different types of memberships: producer/supplier, retailer/food service and associate.
Benchmarking Fee (ߡ Chapter 13)
Owners of Good Agricultural Practice (G.A.P.) standards worldwide can seek to demonstrate equivalence with GLOBALG.A.P. through an independent benchmarking process. The benchmarking fees are service fees covering the application and approval procedure guided by the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat. The fee does not include the cost of evaluation by external expert(s).
GLOBALG.A.P. Workshop Fees (ߡ Chapter 14)
GLOBALG.A.P. Workshops are paid by each participant or in the case of a corporate workshop, by the company. Workshops provide first-hand knowledge of the GLOBALG.A.P. Standard and Good Agricultural Practice (G.A.P.).
1.3 Other Definitions Covered/Non-Covered Crop
Covered crop is primarily intended to mean “Produced in a greenhouse”. A crop is considered “covered” when it is grown beneath or within a structure - with or without building foundations - where the cropping environment has some kind of overhead protection (not including individual plant/tree covers, nets, low tunnels, hail protection, mulches or anything that is not a greenhouse) during the production of that crop. The cover can be made of plastic, glass or other similar materials, and must be accessible by persons (walk-in possible). Any farm can have part of its crop covered and another part not covered, but this must be declared separately at registration, detailing the sum of the respective areas (covered or not covered) according to the definition above. Any other production is considered “Non-covered-crop”
Certification options: ‘’Option 1 - individual producer’’, ‘’Option 2 - producer group’’,
‘’Option 3 - individual producer under full benchmarked or equivalent scheme’’, ‘’Option 4 - producer group under full benchmarked or equivalent scheme’’.
