MISSION STATEMENT

We, the people of St. John XXIII, are a multi-ethnic Roman Catholic parish (founded on July 1, 2006) formed from the union of the Church of the Resurrection, Fontana and St. Thomas More, Rialto. We seek to nourish the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all families and people, so that they can rejoice in the love of God in this life and in the life to come. We endeavor to do this by fostering: an authentic Christian Steward-ship, the Christian education of our youth and adults through Resurrec-tion Academy and other programs, outreach to the poor and needy, and the celebration of the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist.

Nosotros, los feligreses de San Juan XXIII, somos una parroquia Católica Romana multiétnica (fundada el 1de julio del 2006) formada por la unión de la Iglesia de la Resurrección en Fontana y Santo Tomas Moro en Rialto. Procuramos alimentar el Evangelio de Jesucristo en todas las familias y en todas personas, para que puedan regocijarse en el amor de Dios durante ésta vida y en la vida por venir. ESQUINA DE LA REFLEXION DEL P. IMO

ENCONTRARSE CON DIOS EN EL SACRAMENTO DEL

MATRIMONIO (19)

El año pasado comenzamos una reflexión sobre los

sacramentos pero no terminó debido a la necesidad de

concen-trarse en el impacto de las celebraciones de Adviento y

Navi-dad. Inmediatamente despues de Navidad, nuestras reflexiones

nos llevaron al Año Nuevo, DDF, La Educación Católica y

practica Cuaresmal. Ahora que ha terminado la Cuaresma,

vamos a embarcarnos en nuestra reflexión sobre los

sacramen-tos restantes: Matrimonio, Orden Sacerdotal y Uncion de los

Enfermos.

La decisión de casarse es una de las decisiones más

importantes en la vida de una persona. Dentro de la Iglesia

Católica, esta decisión no es sólo un punto alto personal, sino

tambien una celebracion parroquial. El amor humano acepta una

invitación para convertirse en un signo del amor de Dios para

nosotros. La pareja promete ser signos del amor de Dios y

jun-tos ser muestra a la comunidad católica que Dios nos ama

fielmente, para siempre.

El Matrimonio es una vocación– esto es un hecho que al-gunos no sabemos. No todos están llamados a casarse. Cuando Jesús dijo a su audiencia el misterio sobre el matrimonio y divorcio, uno de los discípulos le dijo: "Si esta es la condicion del hombre que tiene mujer, es major no casarse.” Jesus les contesto “ No todos pueden cap-tar lo que acaban de decir, sino aquellos que han recibido este don. Hay hombres que han nacido eunucos. Otros fueron mutilados por los hom-bres. Hay otros todavia que se hicieron tales por el Reino de los Cielos. ¡Entienda el que pueda!. (Mateo 19:10-12)

¿Qué es el Sacramento del Matrimonio? El matrimonio es

el Sacramento por el cual un hombre bautizado y una mujer bautizada se unen para toda la vida en un matrimonio legítimo y reciben la gracia para cumplir con los deberes del estado casado. Por su naturaleza se opone al matrimonio Gay. Da la gracia necesaria del marido y mujer a convivir válidamente y lícitamente con derechos al amor conyugal. Este sacramento es ratificada por votos (consentimiento) y consumado por la unión sexual de la pareja. El meta del matrimonio por su propia naturaleza se ordena al bienestar de la pareja, así como a la

genera-ción y educagenera-ción de los niños.

Las tres propiedades esenciales del matrimonio son la Uni-dad, Indisolubilidad y Abierto a la fertilidad. Matrimonio da al marido y a la mujer la gracia de amarse el uno al otro, fortalecer su unidad indisoluble y los santifica en el camino hacia la vida eternal (Mateo 19:4-6). En Efesios (5:31-32) Pablo llama al matrimonio un misterio (mysterion); término preferido de la iglesia primitiva para “sacramento” (sacramentum). En este matrimonio el significado que cada hombre tenga su esposa y cada mujer su marido (1 Cor. 7:1-3) indisolublemente como Cristo se casó con la iglesia y dio su vida por ella, con amor divino y el perdón. Igualmente, marido y mujer deben tener amor incondicional y listo para perdonarse.

Cuando el matrimonio se celebra en un estado de pecado mortal, la pareja aunque casada (porque se utiliza la forma real) pero no recibirian gracia santificadora porque no existiria la disposición ( acto de fe, esperanza, arrepentimiento y estado de gracia). Cuando la disposición no está allí, el sacramento se puede recibir valido pero ilícitamente.

Hay un aspecto divino al Matrimonio. No es sólo la Unión de la pareja sino con Dios. Por lo tanto el hogar de la nueva familia Cris-tiana se convierte en una Igesia domestica. Todos los adultos Cristianos bautizados debe tener su matrimonio bendecido por la iglesia para reci-bir la gracia suficiente para permitir que él o ella disfrute responsable-mente el amor conyugal, y cuidar de embarazo y cuidado de niños. La misma gracia permite a los matrimonio a cooperar con la gracia de Dios para soportar los altibajos del matrimonio y la familia (a continua-ción)

ENCOUNTERING GOD IN THE SACRAMENT

OF MATRIMONY (19)

Last year we started a reflection on the Sacraments but

did not finish because of the need to concentrate on the impact

of Advent and Christmas celebrations. Immediately after

Christmas, our reflections took us to New Year, DDF, Catholic

Education and Lenten Observance. Now that Lent is over, we

are going to embark on our reflection on the remaining

Sacra-ments: Matrimony, Holy Orders and Sacrament of Anointing.

The decision to marry is one of the most significant

decisions in a person’s life. Within the Catholic Church this

decision is not only a personal high point, but a parish

celebra-tion as well. Human love accepts an invitacelebra-tion to become a

sign of God’s love for us. The couple promise to be signs of

God’s love for each other and together to be signs to the

Catho-lic community that God loves us faithfully, forever.

Marriage is a vocation – this is a fact which some of

do not know. Everyone is not called to marry. When Jesus told

his audience the mystery about marriage and divorce, one of the

disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband

and wife, it is better not to marry.” Jesus replied, “Not everyone

can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given.

For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are

eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are

those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the

king-dom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept

it” (Matt. 19:10-12)

What is the Sacrament of Matrimony? Matrimony

is the sacrament by which a baptized man and baptized woman

bind themselves for life in a lawful marriage and receive the

grace to fulfill the duties of the married state. By its nature it is

opposed to the Gay marriage. It gives the grace needed by

hus-band and wife to live together validly and licitly with rights to

conjugal love. This sacrament is ratified by vows (consent) and

consummated by sexual union of the couple. The goal of

mar-riage by its very nature is ordered to the good of the couple, as

well as to the generation and education of children.

The three essential properties of marriage are Unity,

Indissolubility and Openness to fertility. Matrimony gives

hus-band and wife the grace to love each other, strengthen their

in-dissoluble unity and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life

(Matt 19:4-6). In Ephesians (5:31-32) Paul calls marriage a

mystery (mysterion); an early Church’s preferred term for

“sacrament” (sacramentum). In this marriage means the giving

of one’s life to wife or husband (1 Cor. 7:1-3) indissolubly as

Christ has married the Church and given his life for her, with

divine love and forgiveness. Likewise, husband and wife are to

have unconditional love and ready to forgive each other.

When Marriage is celebrated in a state of mortal sin, the couple though really married (because actual form is used) but will not receive sanctifying grace because the disposition is not there (acts of faith, hope, repentance and state of grace). When the disposition is not there, the sacrament can be received validly but not illicitly.

There is a divine aspect to Matrimony. It is not only the union of the couple but with God. Hence the home of the new Chris-tian family becomes a domestic church. Every baptized ChrisChris-tian adult is bound to have his or her marriage blessed by the Church to receive grace enough to enable him or her to responsibly enjoy conjugal love, and take care of pregnancy and child care. The same grace enables married couple to cooperate with the grace of God to put up with the ups and downs of marriage and family (to be continued)

Summer Fest Raffle Tickets will be available

for pick up after all the masses in the church lobby next weekend. We ask each family to take 2 books of 10 tickets. Each book cost $10.00. Tickets will also be available at the Fontana & Rialto office.

Pre-Sale Carnival Ride Tickets will be available next weekend in the

church lobby and at the parish office during office hours. There is a BIG savings if you purchase your tickets before the Summer Fest. Cost is $15 for a strip of 20 tickets.

that such persons or organizations like “Catholic Scholar

Pro-gram” is not recognized nor has the Diocese’s permission to

Anoth-er one that was a fraud is: “Estudiantes UnivAnoth-ersitarios Catolicos

de America.” They came here 3 years ago to encourage

stu-dents to get more educations, but then were looking for $250

for “Ciudadania” and $300 for “Peticiones”.

Volunteers are needed to help assemble rose

bouquets for our church’s Mother’s Day Rose Project. We are making rose bouquets in order to raise donations for moms and babies in need. Just a few hours of your time on Saturday, May 9th between 9:00am and 3pm will help provide the resources needed to save lives. Teens are especial-ly welcome and encouraged to join this fun and rewarding effort. The rose bouquets are being assembled at The Cathedral 2525 N. Arrow-head, San Bernardino, CA

The Altar & Rosary Society invites everyone to the annual May Crowning of our Blessed Mother. We

will be reciting the Rosary. It will be on May 3rd at 3:00pm at the Fontana Site Church. Everyone is invited after the Crowning for a small gathering in the social hall.

La Sociedad del Altar y Rosario les hace una cordial invitación a la Coronación de la Virgen Maria Se rezara el Rosario. Sera el

domingo 3 de mayo a las 3pm en la Iglesia (Fontana). Todos estan invitados después de la coronación al

salon parroquial para un compartimiento.

Envelopes for Mother’s Day are available in the church lobby. If you wish to have your mother or grandmother or wife remembered in the Mass as a Mother’s Day Gift write the name of your love one and drop it in the collec-tion basket. These will then be placed by our Altar during the month of May.

Los sobres para el Dia de las Madres estan disponibles en la ante sala de la Iglesia. Si usted desea que el nombre de su madre, abuela o esposa sea recordado en la Misa del Dia de las Madres como un regalo escribe el nombre de su amor y despositelo en la canasta de la colecta. Estos sobres se pondran a lado del Altar durante el mes de Mayo.
