Hello Students and Parents!
East Pikeland Elementary is excited to offer a Lego Club as an afterschool enrichment program.
This program is an exciting group enabling children to build Lego models with peers, working as part of a team to develop social skills.
The idea behind the group is to encourage students to communicate with each other and solve a problem by building in pairs or groups of three or more, according to set rules.
One child acts as the “engineer” and describes the instructions, another as the “supplier” finding the correct pieces, and the “builders” will put the pieces together. Students will rotate their roles in the group.
This allows children to work on:
Communicating ideas
Joint attention
Pragmatic language skills
Collaboration
Joint problem-solving
Compromise
Turn taking
Sharing
Fine motor skills
Executive functioning skills
Higher order thinking
Imaginative play
Shared enjoyment!
Children start on easier models, working up to harder models.
Children can then go onto play “freestyle” in pairs, designing and building a model such as a sky scraper or a rocket, which supports practice of
compromising, collaboration and clearly expressing their ideas taking other’s ideas into account.

Dear East Pikeland Families,
Due to the popularity of our East Pikeland Lego Club we are able to divide the
participants into two different sessions. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to offer two sessions per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) from 3:30 to 4:30 beginning the week of October 19th and ending before the winter break. More information will be sent regarding specific dates if your child is selected to participate in the Fall Session. We hope that one of these days will accommodate your needs. We will do our best to honor your first choice but please be aware we may have to place students due to numbers in either session. Please note, participants will be selected on a first come first serve basis. Sessions will have a cap on the number of
students in each session.
Please indicate your first choice on the attached form and return to school keeping in mind our sessions fill rather quickly. You will receive a follow up letter confirming your assigned session.
Thank you for the opportunity to offer this exciting club to your child. We hope these dates will work with your child’s schedule. If your child is unable to participate in the Fall Session please note that we will also be running a spring session. Students who returned forms in the fall but were unable to participate due to space will be given first opportunity in the spring.

La escuela de East Pikeland está muy entusiasmada a ofrecer un Club de Legos como un nuevo programa de enriquecimiento que ocurrirá después del día escolar. Este programa es un grupo interesante que les posibilita a los/las niños/as a construir modelos de Legos con sus pares, trabajando como una parte de un equipo para desarrollar sus habilidades sociales.
La idea del grupo es para animarles a los estudiantes a comunicar entre ellos y resolver un problema, en parejas o grupos de tres o más, por construir modelos siguiendo un grupo de reglas.
Un/a niño/a funciona como el “ingeniero” y describe las instrucciones, otro/a niño/a funciona como el “proveedor” que encuentra los trozos correctos, y los “constructores” reúnen los trozos. Los estudiantes cambiarán sus papeles en el grupo.

Los/las niños/as empiezan con modelos más fáciles y progresan a modelos más difíciles.
Después, los/las niños/as pueden jugar a “estilo libre” en parejas y diseñar y construir un modelo como un rascacielos o un cohete; jugar en esta manera apoyar a practicar mutuo acuerdo, colaboración, y expresar sus ideas en una manera claro y dar consideración a los ideas del otros.
Si su hijo/a tendría interés en inscribirse para este club o si tiene algunas preguntas, favor de completar la forma adjunto.

Estimados Familias de East Pikeland,
Debido a la popularidad de nuestro Club de Legos de East Pikeland, pudimos a dividir los participantes en dos sesiones diferentes. Estamos afortunados a tener la oportunidad a ofrecer dos sesiones cada semana (los martes y los jueves) de las 3:30-4:30. Esperamos que uno de estos días podamos admitir a sus necesidades. Tratamos a atender a su primera elección pero por favor tenga en menta que es posible que tengamos a poner estudiantes en los grupos debido a los números en cualquiera sesión. Por favor, fíjese que los participantes estarán seleccionados por orden de llegada.
La primera sesión de martes será el martes, el 19 de octubre 2015 y terminará el martes, el22 de diciembre, 2015. No tendremos una sesión en el 4 y el 25 de noviembre debido a nuestro día de entrenamiento y reuniones con padres. La primera sesión de jueves será el jueves, el 9 de octubre, 2014 y terminará el jueves, el 4 de diciembre, 2014. No
tendremos una sesión el 27 de noviembre debido al descanso para el Día de Acción de Gracias.
Favor de indicar su primera preferencia de día en la forma adjunto. Recibirá una carta para confirmar su sesión asignada.
