Hey now,

There are probably many traditions that each of us hold dear for Thanksgiving. These customs may be the secret stuffing recipe that has been handed down from generation to generation in which the secret ingredient is clams or cut up bacon. Some may insist that you bake sweet potatoes while others think it is sacrilegious to serve them without marshmallows. Families may like their green beans served with a little snap as you bite into them while others will top them off with cheese dripping and a baked onion crust.

Thinking about something other than food, some families have a pickup game of football either before or after dinner, while others only activity is plopping down on the couch, unbuttoning their pants (as they didn’t wear their stretchy ones) and picking up a remote control to let their fingers run the gamut of the countless stations on the television. Some remember the days when there was a kid’s table as so many people were celebrating, but this Thanksgiving they will only need a small table for a few as so many have gone home to partake of the eternal banquet in heaven.

Hopefully, we will all take time to reflect in thanks on that day and whether it is only the youngest that prays out loud, or we each say a few words let us take some time to truly be thankful for the gifts that abound in our lives. While I don’t wait until Thanksgiving to give thanks to God for some of these gifts, I am sure there are many I do not recognize or take notice of each day. I am thankful for the gift of life that God gives me, and when I may complain of something that is miniscule that I am facing may the Lord help me to realize that there are so many whose lives are so much harder than I can even imagine.

I thank God for the choices available this day of what to eat, and when I sometimes may think that there is nothing I feel like eating may God remind me of those who would eat anything, even trash, simply so that they may live another day or hour. I thank God for the electricity and gas and other utilities to use on this day to help us cook, stay warm and be connected with our loved ones and friends who cannot be with us. When I may curse the time when Wi-Fi goes out or there may be a rolling brown out for one second, may I think of the people who have been without power for months since the hurricanes hit and those who are limited to an hour or two of electricity because they live in a war zone or refugee camp.

I thank God for the ability to see the sunrise and set on all the todays God has granted me. I am thankful for the ability to smell the delicacies that will bring me back to a different Thanksgiving when my loved ones were still alive. I am thankful for the ability to hold another’s hands here in church and around a table to feel the presence of Christ. I am thankful for the kind words that I will hear shared on this day that tell of our oneness in faith and love. I am thankful for the Body and Blood of Christ in which I can taste the love of God given to us. And when I am not thankful may I think of all those who never had the gift to see the colors of the world, or cannot smell the food as they consume it so quickly to stay alive, or those who have never felt love extended to them, or never hear a word of kindness towards them, or have never tasted the love that comes from God. May we in our time of thankfulness ask God for the grace that we become the love of Christ in the world for which others may be thankful.

Hola a todos,

Probablemente hay muchas tradiciones que cada uno de nosotros apreciamos para el día de Acción de Gracias. Estas costumbres pueden ser la receta secreta de relleno que se ha transmitido de generación en generación. Algunos pueden insistir en que hornear patatas mientras que otros piensan que es sacrílego servirlos sin malvaviscos. A las familias les puede gustar de cierta manera el pavo, saborearlo con toques especiales de platillos pre-hispánicos, goteando lo sabores de diferentes frutos y vegetales horneados que hacen una explosión en el paladar.

Al pensar en algo diferente a la comida, algunas familias tienen un juego de fútbol antes o después de la cena, mientras que otras solo se sentaran en el sofá, tomando el control remoto para permitir que sus dedos recorran las innumerables estaciones en la televisión. Algunos recuerdan los días en que había una

mesa cuando eran niños, con mucha gente celebrando, pero este día de acción de gracias solo necesitarán una mesa pequeña para unos pocos, ya que muchos se han ido a casa a participar del banquete eterno en el cielo.

Afortunadamente, todos tomaremos el tiempo para expresar nuestro agradecimiento ese día, desde el más pequeño que ora en voz alta, o cada uno de nosotros diciendo algunas palabras, permitámonos tomar un tiempo para estar verdaderamente agradecidos por los regalos que abundan en nuestras vidas.

Si bien no espero hasta Acción de Gracias para dar gracias a Dios por algunos de estos regalos, pero estoy seguro de que hay muchos regalos que no reconozco ni tomo en cuenta cada día. Estoy agradecido por el regalo de la vida que Dios me da y cuando me quejo de algo que es minúsculo que

me estoy enfrentando, que el Señor me ayude a darme cuenta de que hay tantas vidas de mis hermanos y hermanas que son mucho más difíciles de lo que puedo imaginar.

Doy gracias a Dios por las opciones disponibles en este día para comer y cuando veces pienso que no tengo ganas de comer. Dios me recuerda a los que comían cualquier cosa, incluso basura, simplemente para que puedan vivir otro día. Ahora doy gracias a Dios por la electricidad, el gas y otras utilidades que utilizamos en este día para ayudarnos a cocinar, mantener el calor y estar conectados con nuestros seres queridos y amigos que no pueden estar con nosotros. Cuando maldiga el momento en que se apaga la señal de Internet (Wi-Fi) o que se vaya por un segundo, ¿Quiero pensar en las personas que han estado sin energía durante meses desde que ocurrieron los huracanes y los que están limitados a una hora o dos de electricidad porque viven en una zona de guerra o en un campo de refugiados?. Doy gracias a Dios por la capacidad de ver el amanecer y ponerme en todo lo que Dios me ha otorgado hoy. ¿Estoy agradeci- do por la capacidad de oler las exquisiteces que me llevarán a un Día de Acción de Gracias diferente cuando mis seres queridos aún estaban vivos?.

Estoy agradecido por la capacidad de sostener las manos de otras personas aquí en la iglesia y alrededor de una mesa para sentir la presencia de Cristo. Estoy agradecido por las amables palabras que escucharé en este día que hablan de nuestra unidad en la fe y el amor. Estoy agradecido por el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo en el que puedo saborear el amor de Dios que se nos ha dado. Y cuando no estoy agradecido, puedo pensar en todos aquellos que nunca tuvieron el don de ver los colores del mundo, o no pueden oler la comida, ya que la consumen tan rápido para mantenerse con vida, o aquellos que nunca han sentido el amor extendido a ellos, o nunca escuchan una palabra de bondad hacia ellos, o nunca han probado el amor que proviene de Dios. Que en nuestro tiempo de agradecimiento le pidamos a Dios la

gracia de que nos convirtamos en el amor de Cristo en el mundo por el cual otros puedan estar agradecidos.

Foster Care Ministry

The St. Jerome Foster Care Ministry will have the Christmas Angels available after every mass December 2nd and 3rd. Last year, YOU

helped over 100 families, make Christmas morning special for the children of St. Jerome Community and surrounding area. Please take an angel ornament and help us spread holiday cheer to those in need. Volunteers will be at the church December 9th and 10th before and after each mass to accept your angel and unwrapped gifts. Gifts can be accepted in the Parish office up to December 15th. Thank you.

Ministerio de crianza y cuidados temporales

El Ministerio de Crianza de San Jerónimo tendrá los Ángeles de Navidad disponibles después de cada misa el 2 y 3 de diciembre. El año pasado, USTED ayudó a más de 100 familias, hizo que la mañana de Navidad fuera especial para los niños de la comunidad y sus alrededores. Por favor, tome un adorno de ángel y ayúdenos a

difundir la alegría navideña entre los necesitados. Los voluntarios estarán en la Iglesia

el 9 y 10 de diciembre antes y después de cada misa para aceptar a su ángel y regalos sin envolver. Los obsequios se pueden aceptar en

Step 2: Make Your Contribution

Designate the school (s) of your choice, or choose the general Scholarship Fund that the serves our schools with the greatest need.

Step 3: Claim Your Tax Credit on Your 2017 Tax Filing

CEA will mail you a tax receipt as proof of payment. Present this to your tax preparer (or Turbo Tax). Results: you just directed your tax dollars to a student who needs your help?
