SPECIAL MASSES FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER
There will be special Masses Tuesday evenings at 6pm with veneration of the relic of St. Anthony, followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for the month of
November. Spanish Mass will continue at its usual
time of 7:30 pm. Also for the this month, there will be
special Masses on Saturday mornings at 8:30 am (Bilingual), followed by a Pro-Life Rosary with Sister
Montserrat and a 12 noon Mass in Latin.
MASS & LUNCHEON FOR PARISH VOLUNTEERS
On Saturday, December 8 - the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, we will have a special Mass and luncheon for parish volunteers and for families enrolled in our religious education program. Please call the rectory to RSVP for the luncheon by Friday, November 30. Parents of our religious education students are invited to volunteer to help with set up, clean up, serving food, or by bringing a dessert to share.
DONATION BOXES FOR IMAGES FROM MEXICO
We have recently purchased 2 images from Mexico of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Divine Mercy which should arrive sometime in November. We are asking parishioners to take a donation box and fill it will your spare change and return to us before the Feast day of the Immaculate Conception, December 8th, to offset some of the cost. Thank you.
2019 MASS BOOK NOW OPEN
The 2019 Mass Book is now open for your intentions. If you have a specific date, please do not wait as the intentions fill up quickly. All intentions must be accompanied by the $15.00 stipend and must be made either in person or by letter. Please note that we now will be accepting more than one intention per Mass on week-ends only. No intentions will be taken over the phone.
GOD’S LAWS
God’s laws are not intended to burden or torment us. Instead they are guideposts that point us in the direction of good living. Accordingly, good living requires loving God and loving one another. We should not follow God’s laws out of fear of what might happen if we don’t, but rather view them as a foundation for building relation-ships and trust with one another and with God.
The Shema prayer of Orthodox Jews is based on the reading from Deuteronomy today, “Hear, O Israel.” Every morning people recite the prayer as a profession of their love for God and pledge their obedience to God through-out the day. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Just two years ago, we engaged in one of the core activ-ities of our democratic system: a presidential election. Actu-ally, the institution of election can be traced to traditions in the Church, and although bishops are no longer chosen in this way, abbots and abbesses (heads of monastic communi-ties) have almost always been elected by full voting mem-bers of their communities. The lifetime appointment begins when the monks or nuns are gathered in “chapter” at the death or resignation of the abbot, and fortunately for all in-volved, campaigning is not allowed! The members of the community discern, with prayer to the Holy Spirit, who among them is the best suited for leadership. Once chosen, the new leader requests the blessing of the local bishop, who usually presides at a ceremony of consecration or in-vestiture. The ballots are always secret, and a simple major-ity must be achieved.
In our American system the Electoral College is the determining voice in the presidential election, not the popu-lar election on a November Tuesday, just as the monastic chapter is the electorate. Today, most religious orders elect general superiors in “chapter” by delegates of the professed members, and usually for a term of six years. A few, like the Jesuits, elect for life. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Uno de los santos más populares de la época medieval fue el soldado húngaro conocido como Martín Caballero o Martín de Tours (c. 315-397). Esta popularidad se debió a su biografía escrita por un discípulo, Sulpicio Severo. Su vida fue el mejor ejemplo de santidad a través de varios siglos. Contiene esta biografía muchos de los
acontecimientos, enseñanzas y milagros de la vida del santo que fue soldado en el ejército romano antes de su conversión. Muchos ignoran que fue monje, misionero y obispo por muchos años.
Su imagen decora muchos almanaques
latinoamericanos y él continúa siendo un santo popular. La representación más común de san Martín es la de un soldado romano sobre un caballo que rasga su manto rojo a la mitad con una espada para darle una parte a un pobre sentado a los pies del caballo. Según su biografía, Martín hizo esto durante el proceso de su conversión y resulta que el pobre limosnero se le aparece en un sueño revelándose como Cristo mismo, ya que lo que un cristiano hace por los pobres y marginados lo hace por Jesús.

MISAS ESPECIALES PARA EL MES DE NOVIEMBRE Habrá misas especiales los martes a las 6pm con veneración de la reliquia de San Antonio, seguida de la Exposición del Santísimo Sacramento para el mes de noviembre. La Misa en Español continuará en su tiempo habitual de 7:30 pm. También para este mes, habrá misas especiales los sábados por la mañana a las 8:30 am (bilingüe), seguida de un Rosario pro-vida con la Hermana Montserrat y la Misa de 12 mediodías en Latín.
MISA & ALMUERZO PARA VOLUNTARIOS DE LA PARROQUIA
El sábado 8 de diciembre - la fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción, tendremos una Misa especial y un almuerzo para los voluntarios de la parroquia y para las familias inscritas en nuestro programa de educación religiosa. Por favor llame a la rectoría para confirmar para el almuerzo no mas tarde del viernes, 30 de noviembre. Los padres de nuestros estudiantes de educación religiosa son invitados a ser voluntarios para asistir con el areglo, sirviendo la comida, limpiando o por traer un postre para compartir. CAJAS DE DONACIÓN PARA IMÁGENES DE MÉXICO Hemos comprado recientemente 2 imágenes de México de nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y la Divina Misericordia que debería llegar en el mes de noviembre. Estamos pidiendo a los feligreses que tomen una caja de donaciones y los llenen con su cambio y regresen a nosotros antes del día de Fiesta de la Inmaculada concepción, el 8 de diciembre, para com-pensar parte del costo. 2019 LIBRO DE LAS MISAS
El libro de Misas de 2019 esta abierto para aceptar las inten-ciones de la Misa. Si usted tiene una fecha específica, por favor no espere que las intenciones se llenan rápidamente. Es necesario hacer la solicitud para la Misa, en persona o en una carta. Por favor note que ahora estaremos aceptando más de una intención por Misa solo los fines de semana. Ningunas intenciones de misa serán tomadas por teléfono. El estipendio de $15.00 debe darse en el momento de la reserva de la Misa. LAS LEYES DE DIOS
Las leyes de Dios no intentan atormentarnos o ser una carga. Al contrario, son señales que nos guían por el sendero de la buena vida. Por lo tanto, la buena vida requiere que amemos a Dios y nos amemos unos a otros. No debemos seguir las leyes divinas por miedo a lo que pudiera ocurrir si no las seguimos, más bien verlas como un fundamento sobre el cual construir nuestras relaciones y entablar confianza con los demás y con Dios.
La oración Shema de los judíos ortodoxos se basa en la lectura de hoy del Deuteronomio: “Escucha, pues, Israel”. Cada mañana la persona recita la oración como una profesión de amor a Dios y un compromiso de obediencia a Dios a lo largo del día.
