1-1 Overall Aims of the Course
The course is designed to:• Ability to design, these types of electrical machines such as single phase and three phase transformer, DC machine, and induction machines.
• Ability to select, designs, and improve the starting and running performance of different kinds of electrical machines.
1-2-Intended Learning Outcomes of the course (ILOs):
a- Knowledge and understanding:
Upon completing this course, the student should be able to:
a1 - Explain the principle of design of three phase & single phase transformer machines a2 – Discuss the principle of design of the core – winding pole and interlope of DC machines
a3 – Identify the principle of design of the core – winding pole and interlope of induction machines
a4 – Determine the different classes of the DC machines induction machines, and transformers.
b- Intellectual skills
Upon completing this course, the student should be able to:
b1- Analyze the equivalent circuit representing the three transformer based on the design of transformer with linear magnetic circuit and neglecting the higher space m.m.f.
harmonics of the stator & rotor windings
b2 - Choose the appropriate magnetic material which is proper to given specified the machines output power.
2 c- Professional and practical skills
Upon completing this course, the student should be able to:
c1 - Design completely an electrical machine.
c2 -Select a suitable magnetic and conductor for given a high performance design
c3 - Developed a design procedure to overcome the cooging & crawling phenomena which appear due to the 7th higher space harmonics of the mmf & slated structure of both stator
& rotor.
d- General and transferable skills
Upon completing this course, the student should be able to:
d1- Communicate effectively using written, oral and graphical presentational skills.
d2- Think quietly and positively, and work independently
d3 -Good communication skills through oral presentations and technical report writing d4 - Work in a team environment.
