 The Test and its Purpose

The Online Oral English Placement Test (OOEPT) is an online oral test. It is designed to assess individuals’ speaking language abilities in order to place them into the different levels of the SCE English Language communication programs.

 Test Format, Time & Components

The OOEPT adopts a direct format where two candidates are assessed by two trained speaking examiners. One of the examiners is an interviewer and the other is an assessor. The interviewer is mainly responsible for interacting with candidates and administrating the tasks while the assessor is mainly in charge of scoring candidates’ performances using a rubric aligned with the CEFR.

The OOEPT includes four tasks and requires approximately 15 minutes to complete. The tasks are organized from easy to challenging. The following table shows the test components, with the corresponding CEFR levels, and time required in some detail.

 The setting where you take the test MUST be quiet. It is your own responsibility to have a noiseless setting.

 Any electronic device, including alarms on your watch, MUST be switched off during the test. If any device makes noise or you are seen using it at any time during the duration of the test, it is grounds for immediate (score) cancellation.

 It is your responsibility to correctly note the dates and times of the online test. In case of not showing up, you have to register again for the test and no refund will be made. If there is a justifiable reason, please send an email to [email protected] including your SID and justification, and attach to the email supported documents.

 You cannot start the test late. If you have a justifiable reason, please send an email immediately to [email protected] to study the case and decide on rescheduling the test or not to you.

 Test-takers must wait a minimum of 30 days before they can retake the test. This time should be spent on improving your language skills. The system will automatically prevent you from retaking the test until this time has passed.

 In the event of disconnection, the test will be cancelled and you have to contact the Evaluation, Testing &

Assessment Department of the AUC/SCE ([email protected]), to decide on your case in light of its policies.

 Q. How can I be ready for the test?

 Stay alone in a quiet room with a closed door

 Make sure that the power cable is secured.

 Check the internet connection and make sure it is stable.

 Restart your device 15 minutes before the exam time.

 Close all unnecessary programs

 Open the Zoom invitation email sent to you on your SCE email account and click on the test link 5 minutes before your test time.
