PASTOR’S LETTER
In 1712, a French priest wrote a book that contained an eerie prophecy. He wrote, “I clearly foresee that raging beasts will come in fury to tear to pieces with their diabolical teeth this little book...or they will cause it at least to lie hidden in the darkness and silence of a chest and so prevent it from seeing the light of day.” Saint Louis de Montfort wrote these lines about his book, True Devotion to Mary. When the saint died in 1716, the manuscript of this book lay locked away in a chest.
True to de Montfort’s prophecy, it remained hidden until its discovery in 1843. On publication in 1843, True Devotion to Mary became an instant classic and has transformed many lives since then. In the first half of the twentieth century, a young Pole named Karol Wojtyla read the book and would later describe reading it as a “decisive turning point” in his life. In 1978, Cardinal Karol Wojtyla became Pope and took the name John Paul II. Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta insisted that all of her Missionaries of Charity put into practice the spirituality that Montfort outlined in True Devotion to Mary.
The central point of the book is that the Virgin Mary, because she is the greatest disciple of her Son, shows us the shortest and easiest way to follow Jesus Christ. This spiritual insight is simple yet profound.
I invite you to join me during the last two days of April and throughout the month of May to set out on a 33 day retreat that will culminate in making an act of total consecration to Jesus Christ through Mary on May 31. During these days, I will be making short daily videos that will help you to go through this process. While these videos should be enough to lead one through the spiritual program, you may also want to check out an online guide for consecration to Jesus through Mary (https://www.catholiccompany.com/content/how-to- make-your-total-consecration-to-jesus-through-mary-by-st-louis-de-montfort/) in order to go a bit deeper. To Jesus through Mary, Fr.

PARISH LIFE
STEWARDSHIP - HOW TO GIVE TODAY
Many think of giving when they attend Sunday Liturgy. Yet, giving to the parish even when you do not attend a Sunday Mass is still vitally important to the financial well- being of the parish. You can still give even though the collection is not happening at Mass. Here are three easy ways:
(1) Mail your contribution to the parish office (1031 W Kem Road, Marion, IN 46952).
(2) Utilize our online giving platform launched this past fall. For information about this platform visit www.stpaulcatholicmarion.org/online-giving for information including answers to frequently asked questions and a link to give. You can also access the online giving site from our parish app.
(3) Set up a payment to the parish through your bank’s bill pay system.
We understand the uncertainty of the time we are in together. Your monetary contributions are vital to help keep the parish and its services available. Please consider finding an alternate way of giving your contribution to your parish.

YOUTH MINISTRY ACTIVITIES TO CELEBRATE MARY
Our parish community started the month of May in one of the most popular ways, crowning Mary, our Lady. It doesn't have to end there as there are so many other things you can do throughout the month. Here are a few examples of how to keep celebrating.
1. Place flowers around your Mary statue.
2. Pray a Novena to our Lady.
3. Spread devotion by saying the Rosary.
4. Learn about a new Marian Devotion.
5. Share the Miraculous Medal.
6. Memorize a Marian prayer or hymn.
7. Get Invested in the Scapular.
8. Read a book about Mary.
9. Pray the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
ADULT MINISTRY DAILY PRAYER VS MASS
Question:
Question:
Question:
Question:
I have a friend who says she doesn’t need to attend Mass because she prays to God every day. What are your thoughts on this justification?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer:
Answer:
If the only reason for going to church were to talk to God, your friend might be right. Prayer is not something limited to a physical place or even a holy place. If the sole purpose of the Church were prayer, it would be a narrow purpose indeed. The Church is a community of believers, formed by
“one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism.” It is an outward sign of our faith in God instituted by Christ, and the purpose of the Church is to give us grace, that is, a share in God’s life.
Coming to Mass is not really for God’s sake, but for ours. If we believe that Jesus is truly present in the holy Eucharist, then we will want to be in his presence. We will want to be fed by him. Our daily prayer and good works are strengthened by our authentic encounter with our Lord.
For Catholics, it is at Mass that we celebrate the source and summit of our faith. If this is true, why would we ever stay away? ©LPi
FAMILY MINISTRY SEND A BLESSING TO A
MOTHER
During the season of Easter, what a great time to remember our mothers and ask for God's blessing on them. It is God who ultimately gave us life. It is through God's unselfish love-- mirrored in our mothers' willingness to associate their love with God's and take the risk to love us into life--that we have the opportunity for life. We remember our mothers this Mother's Day with much love. (LPi)
Many of us will not be able to spend time with those we love this Mother’s Day. This year, take time to find a new way to celebrate your mother or someone that doesn't have family nearby. Create and send a card. Send a grocery delivery. Throw a virtual paint night. If you have younger children, make a basket filled with items related to our five senses to send a “Five Sense Basket”. For many, Mother’s Day may be painful.
Even if we know they are in heaven, our hearts hurt. If our mother is no longer with us, we can still choose to honor her. Maybe we can start a new tradition, like donating to her favorite charity, cooking her favorite meal or posting her picture on social media.
Whatever you decide to do make it memorable.
LIVE THE LITURGY VIVIR LA LITURGIA
INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK INSPIRACIÓN DE LA SEMANA With Pentecost, the disciples significantly changed. They were
charged up and ready to go. They received the Holy Spirit and no longer harbored fear and apprehension. They knew who they were and what needed to be done. With the peace of the Lord and the power of the Spirit within them, they set out to do amazing things with simple means. We have received the Holy Spirit as well.
What keeps us from truly understanding the mission of Christ and continuing the advancement of the Gospel? Some may think this was a work of the past and not relevant now. Others may believe that the work set before me is simply about doing what I need to do to merit heaven and has little to do with my brothers and sisters. Take a good look at the world. More are in need of hearing the Good News than there ever were. We have the power to get up and out and start doing life changing things! ©LPi
©LPi
