ANNOUNCEMENT

IX Course on Mouse NeuroMorphologic Development Dates: 13 to 16 June 2013

Language: English Teaching staff:

Luis Puelles Univ.Murcia Sch.Med.; Prof.Neuroanat.; co-developer of the prosomeric model; co-editor of "The Mouse Nervous System", Academic Press/Elsevier, 2012; author of the reference atlases for the Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas

Salvador Martínez Inst.Neuroscience, CSIC/Univ.Miguel Hernández; Alicante; Prof.Human Anat.Embryol.

Margaret Martínez-de-la-Torre Univ.Murcia Sch.Med.; Tit.Prof. (preparation practical materials) José Luis Ferran Univ.Murcia Sch.Med.; Assoc.Prof.

Eduardo de Puelles Inst.Neuroscience, CSIC/Univ.Miguel Hernández; Alicante; Assoc.Prof.

Diego Echevarría Inst.Neuroscience, CSIC/Univ.Miguel Hernández; Alicante; Assoc.Prof.

Participant profile: Molecular biologists or neurobiologists doing pre- or postdoctoral research on brain development (preferably on the mouse). Eventually senior researchers.

Official duration: 40 hours (normally a bit less)

Aims of the course:

Transmit theoretical fundaments and discuss problems of neuroembryological morphological interpretation (brain axis, AP and DV subdivisions).

Give practical recommendations for bench work in this field (e.g., sectioning planes)

Teach crucial anatomical landmarks and the rationale orienting their interpretation in embryonic brain sections in the mouse.

Provide preselected specimens, teaching materials and specific interpretive tasks to resolve.

Attention to specific needs of the participants (they can bring their own materials).

Provide personal interaction with experts in the field in a congenial setting.

Have a good time.

Structure: See Program below.

Experience: A course with this format and with 50% international attendance has been offered yearly in Murcia since 2004. Similar content has been offered by L.Puelles in 2005 at the Kobe Institute for Developmental Biology (Japan), in 2008 at the Allen Institute for Neural Science (Seattle, WA, USA), in 2009 at the University of Sao Paulo (Brasil), and in 2012 and 2013 at the International Neuroanatomy Course organized jointly by the Allen Institute and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (Okinawa, Japan).

Schedule: 13 - 15 June (9.30-13.00h and 15.00-18.00h, with coffee breaks)

16 Jan (Sunday): joint excursion to spa resort and lunch; discussion of notions learnt Price of the course: 300 Euros (covering tuition, materials, excursion and farewell meal on Sunday).

Place: The Course takes place at the School of Medicine (Univ.Murcia, Campus Espinardo), which lies 4-5 Km from the center of Murcia. There are bus and tram lines to the campus (www.umu.es).

Candidates: Please address to <[email protected]> expressions of interest (only via email), attaching short curriculum vitae (or presentation by supervisor) and name, birthday date, passport number, full postal address, phone, and email address of the candidate/s

(please don´t leave phone messages).

Response will be immediate. The accepted candidates will receive information about travel, matriculation, tram/bus connections, etc. Inexpensive lodging can be reserved via internet (we recommend Hotel El Churra, centric in Murcia, next to tram, if participants want to stay together -going out for tapas/music in the evening-, but there are other options).
