The Spanish Economy, 1750-1808: Growth, Changes, and Crisis Enrique Llopis
The main goals of this paper are the following: determining the growth of the Spanish economy in the second half of the eighteenth century, establishing the phases of the economic performance of our country in the period 1750-1808, and presenting some hypothesis regarding the extent and causes of economic change in Spain in the second half of the eighteenth century. Two are the main conclusions of this paper: a) economic and demographic growth were slightly higher than usually claimed in the literature; and 2) decrease in adult mortality and the slight reduction in the degree of economic instability suggest a moderate improvement in the welfare levels of the Spanish society.
