The research topic was the influence of modern teaching materials in the teaching and learning of the English language in junior high schools in Ebongi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. It is obvious that English language teaching and learning cannot be done well without the use of teaching materials, especially the modern teaching materials. However, Bolick (2010) pointed out a good relationship between the teaching of the English language and the use of modern teaching materials.
The main purpose of using teaching materials in English is to achieve excellent results. The main objective of this research is to uncover the influence of modern teaching materials in the teaching and learning of the English language in secondary schools in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi state. To identify the ways in which modern teaching materials can influence the teaching and learning of the English language in secondary schools.
Identifying the possible ways in which secondary schools can acquire modern teaching materials. What are the main reasons why teachers do not use modern teaching materials when teaching English in secondary schools? Problems encountered in using modern instructional materials in teaching and learning the English language.
Solutions to the problems encountered in the use of modern teaching materials in the teaching and learning of the English language.
Immediate feedback: The immediate feedback from modern teaching materials interactive terminals keeps students interacting and.
No annoyance: Modern instructional materials like computers always wait patiently for an answer and do not express annoyance with wrong responses
Graphics facility: Interactive graphics make it possible to sample many more illustration that could easily be known in a textbook
Enrichment of course: The novel technique provides enrichment of course through added variety
11. Modern teaching materials reduce the workload of explanation on the teacher and give a more permanent knowledge. 12. Modern teaching materials provide the teacher with the tools to bring out creativity in the minds of the learners. Problems encountered in the use of modern teaching materials in the teaching and learning of the English language in junior secondary schools.
Solution to the problems encountered in using modern instructional materials in teaching and learning the English language in secondary schools. Teachers should be trained in the appropriate use of modern instructional materials in teaching English language in secondary schools. The government should make provision for necessary modern materials in various secondary schools so as to solve the problem of lack of modern teaching materials in various schools.
The authorities/managements of secondary schools should carefully manage the various teaching materials available in their school and also find a way to provide some of them which are not available in their school. Students must appropriately use the modern learning materials made available to them, whether by the government, school authorities or by their parents. The role of teachers in the effective selection and use of modern instructional materials in teaching and learning the English language.
The importance of teaching materials in the teaching of all school subjects and the English language in particular cannot be overemphasized. The most important thing is to have a clear knowledge of how to prepare and use the instructional materials needed for each lesson. Evaluation of instructional materials according to Drakwane (2006) simply means “choosing among available alternatives and making a decision as to what type of materials are most appropriate and can be used for effective teaching and learning of a particular lesson in the classroom .
This implies that evaluation of teaching materials can mean the considerations that the teacher makes as they figure out how a particular teaching material can be effectively applied or used in a classroom. In addition, learning activities in any teaching environment should be able to provide several different representations of the same teaching material in different contexts. Knowledge cannot be oversimplified: Modern teaching material that must be used must not oversimplify a subject either in terms of content or arbitrarily.
Knowledge cannot be oversimplified: Modern instructional materials to be used, must not oversimplify a topic neither in terms of content, nor in terms
In terms of course design in English, this would mean an instructional design in which for each of the learning objectives to be mastered, students should be provided with several examples and online activities, as cognitive flexibility theory claims that Multiple student exposure to the same concept in different contexts facilitates the learning process. Furthermore, providing many different ways to represent the same concepts or content in English is of extreme value to learners and this can be translated into an instructional material and design that makes extensive use of multimedia, giving learners ample opportunity to be exposed to the same. concepts, although not at the same time would suit all learning preferences and could motivate students by offering them variety in the learning of the English language subject. Oversimplification of concepts gives adult learners a feeling that they already know the English language learning materials and therefore, they may consider the specific learning course as a waste of time.
In terms of structure, problems should be presented to students in more complex and involving structures rather than linear or simplistic ones. Therefore, it is better for instructional designers to provide opportunities for students to make their own connections between concepts and principles being explored, even though these concepts may be of high complexity. Knowledge is constructed: The teaching that takes place should be case-based, where the emphasis is rather on the construction of knowledge.

Knowledge is connected: In order for a student to be able to group what is taught, the sources of knowledge used should rather be interconnected.

This is because the researchers did not say anything about the impact of modern teaching materials in the teaching and learning of English in junior high schools. The area of the study was public junior secondary schools in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. However, this research work aimed to determine the impact of modern teaching materials in the teaching and learning of English language in Ebonyi.
This given the total respondents of 130 (86%) of the respondents agreed while 20 (14%) of the respondents disagreed. Item two in table one shows that 80 (53%) and 60 (40%) of the respondents strongly agreed and agreed respectively while 10 (7%) of the respondents disagreed. The result showed that lack of modern teaching materials is one of the reasons why teachers do not use them in junior secondary schools.
The result showed that the lack of technical knowledge on the part of teachers is also one of the reasons why teachers do not use modern teaching materials in teaching English in lower secondary schools. This showed that all 150 (100%) respondents agree that unstable electricity supply and high fuel price is also one of the reasons why teachers may not use modern teaching materials in junior high school. The third point in the table showed that 80 (53%) and 70 (47%) respondents strongly agree and agree, respectively.
One of the conclusions is that modern teaching materials motivate students' interest in learning more and more. The lack of modern teaching materials is one of the reasons why secondary school teachers do not use modern teaching materials. Lack of technical knowledge on the part of teachers is also one of the reasons why teachers do not use modern teaching materials in secondary schools.
Government provision is one way junior high schools can acquire modern teaching materials. The focus of this study was on the impact of modern teaching materials in the teaching and learning of English in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The findings of this study showed that modern teaching materials play a very important role in motivating junior high school English language learners to learn.
Finally, the importance of modern teaching materials for the teaching and learning of the English language cannot be overemphasized. I am a final year student of Godfrey Okoye University conducting a research on the influence of modern teaching materials in the teaching and learning of the English language in Junior secondary schools in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
