Dr. Gayle Galligan, Deputy Superintendent, DVUSD

Committee Co-Chair

I am a native of Arizona, with 29 year experience in public education. Currently my role is the Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment in the Deer Valley Unified School District. Classrooms have come a long way with the growth of educational technology over the past twenty years.

As a teacher, the advent of technology integration in the classroom was exciting with a brand new world of opportunity for student engagement and learning. Floppy disks, Oregon Trail, Lemonade Stand, Giga Pets, HyperStudio, and Ask Jeeves are just a few of the initial changes brought with technology in the late 80’s and early 90s. Every school year I would ask Jeff Anderson , “Why can’t my students have student e-mail?” Flash forward to the past few years and I have to wonder and

ask…why has educational technology taken soooo long to root itself into transforming classrooms and instruction? I hope this committee, made up of multiple stakeholders, helps us identify how to effectively foray into one specific area of educational technology and how to immerse our students in that learning.

Jeff Anderson, Director Information Services &

Technology DVUSD

Jeff Anderson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Montana. He began his career as a programmer in Deer Valley in the mid 80's and took on the role as the Director of the

department shortly there after. The changes in technology throughout my career have both been challenging and unbelievably rewarding. I see no reason why the pace of the change should not continue to accelerate moving forward.

Robert Davis, Teacher Vista Peak School Robert Davis, Teacher Vista Peak School

After almost 20 years in the world of technology, (General Motors, aerospace and small business owner designing/repairing electronics), I

completed my teaching certificate requirements from Ottawa University (PHX) in 2011. I am currently working on a Masters of Educational Technology through Northern Arizona University and should have it completed in December 2016.

I have 2 boys, Michael (19) and Anthony (15).

I taught Business and Information Technology at Boulder Creek High School before making the jump to help establish Vista Peak’s CTE

department for coding with an emphasis on Web Design and Development.

For Hobbies: I love hiking desert trails, working on software/electronic projects and spending my summers on the lake with my Jet Skis and the kids.

Technology is a big part of our everyday lives.

Being part of this committee is a chance to take my love for technology and get more of it into the classroom. This technology includes both

hardware and software design fundamentals along with implementation. Students need a taste of software and hardware related process possibilities so they can develop skills that will allow them to compete in the global job market.

I graduated from New England College with a degree in Political Science (06) and I received my masters from ASU in Elementary Education (09). I have taught in Massachusetts and Arizona the last seven years. I currently coach Sierra Verde's First Lego League team, Rubik's Cube teams, and I have started a Minecraft EDU Club. I have teamed up with a parent to start an all-girls

computer science club next year. I am passionate about getting all kids excited about computer science. This past year I worked with other teachers on our

campus to get our entire school to participate in the "Hour of Code." I am passionate about bringing gamification into the classroom, imbedding computer science within the curriculum, and

challenging students to become tech creators as opposed to tech consumers.

My name is Miko Price and I'm a counselor at Deer Valley High School. This is my fifth year at DVHS and prior to that I was a K-8 counselor for 5 years. I have two children in this district currently in 2nd and 5th grade. As a counselor and a mom, I think it is critical that we include technological skills at every grade level so our students are competitive, as well as how technology should be used safely. I believe this access needs to be available to every student, regardless of what school they attend. Though tricky from a

curriculum perspective, we also need to adapt and be fluid with what they learning as technology continues to change.

Next year will be my 25th year in the district and at Desert Sky, During this time I have been a coach, an athletic coordinator, CIT chairperson, and for the past 22 years a student council advisor and for the past 13 years a co-

producer of our morning video announcements. Each step of the way incorporating more and refined technology. Over the past 8 years my social studies students have incorporated Google Docs/Presentation (now Google Drive) into how they learn and present their learning. They have learned to share, do research, present, and most importantly cooperate while doing their work. I have completed all coursework to

become a Google Certified Educator both Level 1 and 2.

This summer I will be heading up a coding camp leading into a coding club during the school year. I joined this committee because I was asked and I hope it will be the start of

including coding into the school curriculum. My experience with coding is limited to Codeacademy and block coding.
