Food Pantry Corner “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward them for what they have done.” Proverbs 19:17 It’s here! This weekend the St Jude Food Pantry is holding its first "reverse collection".
We ask each person or family to purchase at least one of the items listed on the slip and bring that to the church next weekend or to the office any week day to complete the “reverse offering.” You may place your offerings in the baskets in the foyer of the church.
Over the past year the demand at the food pantry has grown, and it appears that this trend will continue. We greatly thank you for your support, kindness and generosity.

WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
St. James message of peace is as true now as it was 2000 years ago. Where else do wars and terrorism come from, than from people holding on to wealth, power, or hatred? But the message James shares, and that of Jesus in the Gospel, is a simple call to be different. Neither of them condemns anyone. They call us to look at what we really want and what truly brings happiness.
Jesus’ disciples argued about who was greatest. Instead of slapping them down for their selfish pride, He looks at what they could be and
calls them to a different attitude. To be truly happy, they must let go of pride and arrogance; they must learn that serving others is the only way to experience love and joy.
We are no different today. We have to learn that having the latest gadget, the most expensive cell-phone, or the latest-model car are at best temporary delights. And that being admired by acquaint-ances is never as lasting as loving someone for themselves. Jesus offers even more: the joy of being loved by God and helping others to know Him. Think about Jesus’ words to the disciples: He is the Son of God, yet He wants to lead us not just to himself, but to the Father.
Can we learn to be more excited about what God has done for us than what we did to improve our home? Can we share our faith in God’s mercy instead of bragging about our golf or bowling scores? Are we more interested in impressing members of the opposite sex, or treating all people with respect?
St. James ends our second reading with a challenging statement: He says we ask but don’t receive because we ask wrongly. How often do we desire things that won’t really make us happy? Do we pray for things we don’t really need? Would we ask God to punish those who hurt us, or to help us forgive them? Let us ask God to show us his love and to help those around us to experience it too.

¿QUÉ TE HACE FELIZ?
El mensaje de paz de Santiago es tan cierto ahora como lo fue hace 2000 años. ¿De dónde más vienen las guerras y el terrorismo que de las personas que se aferran a la riqueza, el poder o el odio? Pero el mensaje que Santiago comparte, y el de Jesús en el Evangelio, es un simple llama-do a ser diferente. Ninguno de ellos condena a nadie; nos llaman a mirar lo que realmente quere-mos y lo que verdaderamente trae felicidad.
Los discípulos de Jesús discutían sobre quién era el más grande. En lugar de abofetearlos por su orgullo egoísta, Él mira lo que podrían llegar a ser y los llama a una actitud diferente. Para ser verdaderamente felices, deben dejar ir el orgullo y la arrogancia; deben aprender que servir a los demás es la única manera de experimentar el amor y la alegría.
Hoy no somos diferentes. Tenemos que aprender que tener el último gadget, el teléfono celular más caro, o el último modelo de coche son placeres temporales y que ser admirado por conocidos nunca es tan duradero como amar a alguien por sí mismo. Jesús ofrece aún más: la alegría de ser amado por Dios y ayudar a otros a conocerlo. Piensen en las palabras de Jesús a los discípulos: Él es el Hijo de Dios, pero Él quiere guiarnos no sólo a sí mismo, sino al Padre.
¿Podemos aprender a estar más entusiasmados con lo que Dios ha hecho por nosotros que con lo que hicimos para mejorar nuestro hogar? ¿Podemos compartir nuestra fe en la misericordia de Dios en lugar de presumir nuestra puntuación en un juego de golf o bolos? ¿Estamos más intere-sados en impresionar a los miembros del sexo opuesto que en tratar a todas las personas con respeto?
Santiago termina nuestra segunda lectura con una afirmación desafiante: Él dice que pedimos pero no recibimos porque pedimos erróneamente. ¿Con qué frecuencia deseamos cosas que realmente no nos harán felices? ¿Estamos orando por cosas que realmente no necesitamos? ¿Le pediríamos a Dios que castigue a los que nos hieren, o por el contrario, que nos ayude a perdo-narlos? ¡Ya llegó! Este fin de semana es la primera “colecta a la inversa” para suplir la despensa de comida de San Judas. Le pedimos a cada persona o familia que compren al menos uno de los artículos que aparecen en la boleta y que lo traigan a la iglesia el próximo fin
de semana o a la oficina cualquier día de la semana laborable para completar su ofrenda a la inversa. Usted puede colocar sus ofrendas en las
canastas que están en el vestíbulo de la iglesia.
Durante el pasado año, la demanda en la despensa de alimentos ha crecido, y parece que esta tendencia continuará. Le agradecemos enormemente su
