In the Gospel today, Peter yearns to do something to make concrete the Transfiguration he had witnessed. But to be a good steward of this spiritual gift, he was instruc- ted to be still, to listen to Jesus, and to wait for His direc- tion. Good advice for us, too!

PASTOR’S CORNER

Gospel Reading:

Matthew 17:1-9

Jesus is transfigured on the mountain in the presence of Peter, James, and John.

Family Connection to Today’s Gospel

Every family has special moments that they remember and share. In sharing these stories, the meaning and importance of the events de- velops and deepens over time. This is how it was with the disciples’

remembrance of Jesus’ Transfiguration. The full significance of what they had seen and experienced could only be understood after Jesus’ Death and Resurrection. As Peter, James, and John reflected on the event and told other believers about the Transfiguration, their own faith deepened. Because Matthew, Mark, and Luke recorded the account of the Transfiguration in their writings, we too can deepen our faith in Jesus, the Son of God and our Savior.

Gather as a family and think about some special memories that your family recalls over and over again. Talk about why these moments are important to you. Remember that in the Bible we find many important stories about Jesus. They have been recorded so that we too can learn about him and his teachings, so that we too can come to know and love Jesus, God’s beloved Son. Read today’s Gospel, Matthew 17:1–9. Discuss as a family how Jesus fulfills the promises that God made to Israel and how God glorified Jesus after the Res- urrection. Talk about your family and the promises you have made to one another. Conclude by praying together the Lord’s Prayer so that as a family you continue to grow in faithfulness to one another and to your heavenly Father.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Cada familia tiene momentos que recuerdan y comparten. Al com- partir estas historias, el significado y la importancia de los aconte- cimientos se desarrollan y se profundizan con el tiempo. Se trata de cómo era con la conmemoración de los discípulos de la Transfigu- ración de Jesús. El significado pleno de lo que habían visto y expe- rimentado podría entenderse sólo después de la muerte y resurrec- ción de Jesús. Así como Pedro, Santiago y Juan reflexionaron sobre el evento y compartieron con otros creyentes acerca de la Transfi- guración, se profundizo su propia fe. Porque Mateo, Marcos y Lu- cas registraron el relato de la Transfiguración en sus escrituras, también podemos profundizar nuestra fe en Jesús, el hijo de Dios y nuestro Salvador.

Reúnanse como familia y piensen en algún recuerdo especial que su familia recuerda una y otra vez. Hable acerca de por qué estos mo- mentos son importantes para usted. Recuerde que en la Biblia en- contramos muchas historias importantes sobre Jesús. Se han regis- trado para que también nosotros podemos aprender acerca de él y sus enseñanzas, por lo que también podemos llegar a conocer y amar a Jesús, hijo amado de Dios. Lean el Evangelio de hoy, Mateo 17, 1-9. Conversen en familia cómo Jesús cumple las promesas que Dios hizo a Israel y cómo Dios ha glorificado a Jesús después de la resurrección. Hablen sobre su familia y en las promesas que ha hecho uno al otro. Terminen rezando juntos la oración del Padre Nuestro para que continúen creciendo en fidelidad uno al otro y a su Padre celestial como una familia.

Jamaica 2017:

Our Jamaica is up and running for 2017. We are in need of volun- teers in the Raffle Area to help in the selling of tickets on the week- ends after mass. RCIA

On August 6 & 13, we will be registering adults for the RCIA program for 2017-2018 in the School Building after all of the masses.

Please take advantage of this opportunity to complete your initiation into the Catholic

Faith.

If possible bring your birth certificate and Baptismal certificate with you. There will be

a fee of $60 for the books that are used. The fee is payable at registration.

We will be taking registrations at the Main Church Office during the week. Please con-

Prayer Cards: Available in the Par ish Office for a donation of $2.00 or

$5.00. Perpetual Certificates are also available. These enrollments make excel- lent gifts for many occasions. Proceeds from these donations are used to edu- cate Seminarians in the Diocese. The Fund is also used to make low interest loans to parishes for building programs. This has been a project of the Austin Diocesan Council of Catholic Women since 1948.

Infertility & Miscarriage Support: Sarah's Hope & Abraham's Promise is

a spiritual support program for couples struggling with infertility and miscar- riage. Based on Catholic teaching, we combine the wisdom of modern medi- cine with the healing power of the Catholic Church. We offer a women's Bible study support group, couples healing retreats and prayer services throughout the year.

Adoption Support: Destined: Families Built by Love is a spiritual support

program and monthly playgroup for adoptive families. Anyone who has built their family through the miracle of adoption is invited to meet with other families to share the joys and challenges of adoption and fostering. The play- group meets once a month in different areas of Austin.

Spirituality Couples Group Meeting - St. Paul Catholic Church St. Paul will host a couples group meeting at Casa San Pablo, 10,000

David Moore Dr., just to the right of the church, on Thursday, July 27, from 6:30-8:30pm. The group meets the 4th Thursday of the month and discusses ways to reconnect our faith to our daily lives. As

couples and families, we often face the difficulties of the world with- out the Word. The group strives to learn from topics provided in a
