Dear Parent or Guardian:
All Illinois elementary schools will be administering the Partnership for Assessment of
Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) in place of the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) this school year. Park School Campus will giving the first component of this test, the Performance Based Assessment, from March 9 – April 3. During this time, all eligible students in grades three through eight will be tested in reading and mathematics. The End of Year portion of the PARCC will be administered from April 27th-May 22nd. More information on this
assessment, as well as the specific PBS testing dates for each grade level are included in this newsletter.
The results of these reading and mathematics tests will be reported to the community on the School Report Card in the fall. Park School Campus will review these test results along with other information to help us improve our school program. In addition, parents will receive information about your child’s performance on these state tests next fall.
You can help your child do his or her best on the test by:
1. Making sure, if possible, that your child attends school on the days of testing 2. Making sure your child gets a good night’s sleep the evening prior to testing 3. Providing breakfast on the morning of testing
4. Reminding your child to ask the teacher questions if he or she does not understand the test directions
5. Letting your child know that you have confidence in his or her ability to do his or her best
6. Advising your child not to worry about the test, but just to do his or her best We look forward to sharing the PARCC results with you next fall.
Sincerely,
Park School Campus Notes / Activities

Kindergarten Registration for the 2015-2016 School Year:
It's kindergarten registration time for children who will be 5 years of age on or before September 1st, 2015! Parents of children who will be entering kindergarten at Community Consolidated School District 46 next year should pick up a registration packet from the school office. If you missed the Kindergarten Meet and Greet event, please contact the school for information. Tours of the building are available by appointment before and after school hours. Kindergarten
Registration Night will take place at Frederick School on Monday, March 2nd from 4:30-7:30pm. Families that are unable to attend should visit the District Registrars Office located at Grayslake Middle School. Early registration ends April 10th.
Attention 8th Grade Parents:
Thank you to those that joined us for the Graduation Celebration meeting on 2/24. It is not too late to participate in the planning of the festivity for your child. If you are still interested, please join us at our next meeting on 3/10 at 6:00pm in the Park Campus Media Center.
Please also note the following change in date for the 8th grade Graduation Ceremony: Graduation Ceremony – Thursday, May 28th (5:30)
Pond Safety Announcement:
We have numerous ponds/retention ponds in our subdivisions and neighborhoods. All students need to be reminded that they must stay off the slowly melting ice. The ponds are not meant for any winter activities. Thank you for your assistance.
Message from D46 Webmaster:
If you know of anyone who is not receiving our updates, or if you would like to keep up to date on all of the school or district news, be sure to sign up on our district website
(http://www.d46.org/) under the going green logo. Arrival & Dismissal at Park Campus:
Winter weather makes for more traffic and a longer commute. While we understand the traffic can be frustrating, we need all students and parents to follow the arrival and dismissal
procedures. Students can only be dropped off and picked up in the south (K-5) and west (5-8 and younger siblings) parking lots. Handicap spots need to be saved for cars with the
appropriate tags. Cars will not be permitted to sit in the lanes blocking traffic and students will not be permitted to cross in to the lot unless accompanied by an adult. These procedures are put in place to keep all students safe. When all parents follow the procedures, the process goes quicker and all students are kept out of harms way. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
PARCC ASSESSMENTS
From the January 2015, ISBE Division of Public Information
Illinois schools will administer new assessments created through the Partnership
for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) in spring 2015. These assessments are fully aligned to the K-12 Illinois Learning Standards in English
language arts and mathematics and emphasize academic rigor, critical thinking, problem solving and college and career readiness for all students.
Third- through eighth-graders will take the PARCC in both English language arts
and math. The PARCC replaces the state’s former tests, the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT).
This year, we will be using the PARCC summative assessments, which are designed to
measure overall curriculum and program effectiveness. These assessments are standardized to allow comparison across student groups. The PARCC summative assessments consist of two required components: a Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) and an End of Year assessment (EOY).
The PBA component of the PARCC requires that students demonstrate their knowledge and skills through extended tasks and take the PBA when approximately 75 percent of instruction has been completed.
Students take the second part, or EOY, at approximately the point when 90 percent of instruction has been completed. The EOY is composed of shorter, machine-scored questions. Note these are not two separate tests but two parts (PBA and EOY) of one summative assessment and are not intended to measure the growth or academic progress gained from one part to the next. Instead, growth can be measured when compared to prior years and when other PARCC assessments become available.

5Essentials Survey:
It's not too late. If you did not get a chance to take the 5Essentials Survey we are still looking for your feedback regarding Park School. Please take 5 minutes to follow the link below and
complete the state survey. All K-4 parents should select Park East School, while parents with students in grades 5-8 should select Park West School. This feedback will become one part of our Illinois State Report Card. Thanks in advance for taking the time to provide feedback on our school.
