THE FALL OF MAN
The grace and innocence of the second window, now give way to sin. Here is the tree with its forbidden fruit and the devil (the Fallen Angel), who seduced Eve, is depicted as a serpent. Eve is portrayed seduc- ing Adam by offering the forbidden fruit which is undefined to signify our lack knowledge as to what temptation really was. The dark color of the glass de- picts the dark death of sin. At the top of the window is enshrined the patroness of La Purisima Church, the Immaculate Mother of Jesus, who symbolizes God’s first covenant with man when God spoke to the devil and said, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your offspring and hers.”

Divine Mercy
The Divine Mercy group is dedicated to the Sa- cred heart of Jesus and the Divine Mercy. Our next prayer service will be held on Friday, No- vember 5th at 3:00PM, then every Friday of the month. The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be said, followed by the rosary. This will be a bi-lingual service. We hope you will attend this special devotion in honor of Jesus, in whom we trust.
St. Joseph Pilgrimage
As we close out the year of St. Joseph, at the urging of Bishop Barron, a pilgrimage has been established for the purpose of honoring St. Joseph, husband of Our Lady and earthly father to our Lord.Selected parishes throughout the Santa Barbara region are opening their doors from October through December so that pilgrims can visit unique and special icons, paintings, and statues of St. Joseph. The purpose is to reflect on the importance of St. Joseph. Bishop Barron is urging all of us to complete this Regional Pil- grimage in honor of St. Joseph to renew our commitment to family and service. “For all fathers, and especially young men, there is a great need to recapture the role of man hood in our society. To gain the inner strength neces- sary, there is no greater model than St. Joseph.”

All Saints and All Souls
The feast of All Saints brought us to contemplate "your holy city, the heavenly Jerusalem, our mother" (Preface, All Saints). With our heart still turned toward this ultimate reality, we commemorate all of the faithful departed, who have
"gone before us marked with the sign of faith and... who sleep in Christ" (Eucharistic Prayer I). It is very important that we Christians live a relationship of the truth of the faith with the deceased and that we view death and the afterlife in the light of Revelation. Already the Apostle Paul, writing to the first communities, exhorted the faithful to "not grieve as oth- ers do who have no hope. For since", he wrote, "we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep" (1 Thes 4: 13-14). It is necessary to evangelize about the reality of death and eternal life, realities particularly subject to superstitious beliefs and syncretisms, so that the Christian truth does not risk mixing itself with myths of various types.
Todos los Santos y Todas las Almas
La fiesta de Todos los Santos nos hizo contemplar "la ciudad del cielo, la Jerusalén celeste, que es nuestra ma-

Es muy importante que los cristianos vivamos la relación con los difuntos en la verdad de la fe, y miremos la muerte y el más allá a la luz de la Revelación. Ya el apóstol san Pablo, escribiendo a las primeras comunidades, exhortaba a los fieles a "no afligirse como los hombres sin esperanza". "Si creemos que Jesús ha muerto y resucitado —escribía—, del mismo modo a los que han muerto en Jesús Dios los llevará con él" (1 Ts 4, 13-14). Es necesario evangelizar la realidad de la muerte y de la vida eterna, realidades particularmente sujetas a creencias supersticiosas y sincretismos, para que la ver- dad cristiana no corra el riesgo de mezclarse con mitologías de diferentes tipos.
