Jubilee Year of the Earth:
How can we be Eucharist for others in our caring for
each other and our common home?
Pop quiz: Can you name the three parts of the Laudato Si’ Pledge?
You may not remember, but Fr. Joe committed St. Ignatius Parish to that pledge two years ago. So, it’s important that we keep in mind its components so we can work to live up to our commitment.
Here they are:
•Pray for and with creation •Live more simply
•Advocate to protect our common home
This year, more than ever, we are at a critical junction. The climate continues to change and
the negative results are becoming more obvious in daily headlines of
ÀUHV ÁRRGV DQG H[WUHPH VWRUPV
The pandemic, Black Lives Matter, and the global immigrant and refu-gee crises all have links to the way we’ve been poor stewards of God’s gift of creation. How, then, can we respond? We can use this year’s
Season of Creation as an opportunity to renew and make vis-ible out personal and communal commitment to the Laudato Si’ Pledge.
Have you made the pledge? Yes or no, the Season of Cre-ation will be an opportunity to record or renew your response to the call of Pope Francis. The goal is to collect at least 500 pledges by October 4th. You can complete the pledge on the St. Ignatius web site under the Green Team section: LINK.
The theme for this year’s program, “Jubilee Year of the Earth: How can we be Eucharist for others in our caring for each other and our common home?” comes from three
sourc-HV7KHÀUVWLVWKHRIÀFLDOWKHPHIURPWKH*OREDO&DWKROLF&OL -mate Movement, “Jubilee for the Earth.” The biblical tradition of “jubilee” is based on the importance of the Sabbath, the day God rested to contemplate his gift of love, Creation. In the seventh of seven year cycles, there comes a time “to ded-icate a year to …. ecological, social and economic restorative justice.” [Ref: 2020 Celebration Guide: Season of Creation, p. 5, Global Catholic Climate Movement.] This builds on the Vatican’s recent launch of “Laudato Si’: Special 5th Anniversa-ry Year, May 24, 2020 - May 24, 2021”.

¿Has hecho el compromiso?

The goal of this plan is nothing less than “to make commu-nities around the world totally sustainable in the spirit of the integral ecology of Laudato Si’.” [Ref: IBID, p. 6]
The second source of the theme came from a question DVNHGDWD/LWXUJ\&RPPLVVLRQPHHWLQJ:HZHUHUHÁHFWLQJ on the Archdiocesan call to celebrate a Year of the Eucharist. We realized that this is instead a time of Eucharistic fast for many, unable to attend Mass and receive Communion. The question: How can we be Eucharist for others? There is a strong connection in Franciscan spirituality between St. Fran-cis’ fervent devotion to the Eucharist and his ability to see God in all of Creation. How can we contemplate on this and bring it to our way of looking at and being for each other and the world around us?
The third source is Laudato Si’ itself. If you haven’t read it (I know, it’s long!), you might want to consider a summary. Fr. James Martin, S.J., provided a list of the top ten things to know. A video of his presentation is here: LINK. . Pope Francis asks us to hear the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. But not to just hear, to also respond by caring.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Are you interested in becoming Catholic?
St. Ignatius Parish invites you to discern the
decision to become a fully initiated Catholic through
the process of the Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
RCIA could be for you if:
-You've never been baptized and wish to explore a
relationship with God through the Catholic faith
-You're a baptized Christian who would like to
share fully in Catholic communion through
Eucharist and Confirmation
-You're a Catholic who has not yet celebrated the
Sacrament of Confirmation
The parish invites you to come and see if this is the next best step in your spiritual journey.
In the context of a supportive small-group learning community, we explore the richness of
Catholicism and reflect on the meaning of faith in daily life.

Twenty-Second SundayThe Catholic Appeal
We Still Need a Few More Parishioners to Help Reach Our Goal
Even in the midst of a global pandemic, service to others remains core to the work of our Church.
Anointing the sick. Serving our faith communities. Supporting our schools.
And so much more. As you know, your gift to the annual Catholic Appeal
helps supports this work. This year the Archdiocese helped us with guidance
and supplies to reopen our Church building as well as aid us in securing the
government loan needed to keep our employees on payroll. Each year your
generosity has helped us reach our Annual Appeal goal and as a result we
re-ceived a rebate. This year we need 126 donors in order to qualify for a rebate
in 2020. We simply need a few more donors. We recognize that some of you
may not but able to donate this year. If you are able, please prayerfully consider making a gift to
the 2020 Catholic Appeal to ensure that this critical work continues. To learn more about Your
Church at Work or to make a donation, visit:

Notice:
Dr. Anthony Compagnone, a parishioner and member of the Liturgy
Commission, has advised us that masks are effective
ONLY
if they cover both your nose and your mouth,
with a snug fit over the nasal bridge. This is the best way to prevent your respiratory droplets from
escaping into the space around you and onto others.
Further, he pointed out that recent studies have shown that, while valved masks may make it easier for
you to inhale, they are ineffective in preventing your exhaled breath from
contaminating the air around you.
Valved masks of any kind, therefore, will be prohibited for use during Mass at St. Ignatius. The Greeter
at your liturgy will happily provide you with an acceptable mask to wear as you enter the church. We also
ask that you wear your mask properly throughout the Mass.
This is for the safety of us all. We appreciate your cooperation.
