Dear Families:
The first week of Lent presented us with Jesus struggling against the tempter, the devil. On this second week, the outlook changes as we see Jesus transfigured before Peter, John and James. In this account, God the Father shows these three disciples the truth about Jesus' iden ty: the glory of the future resurrec on.
The disciples wanted to keep and remain in that moment of glory, but Jesus makes them see that they had to return to the daily life with its struggles and work, with its joys and sorrows, and the mission of proclaiming peace, jus ce and the love of God. We will have to struggle in this life, but in the end, we will have the victory, promised by Jesus.
So, Lent draws our a en on to follow Jesus who dedicated his life to the service of others. He showed compassion for the poor; ate with sinners; restored health to the sick; and comforted the sad. Close by us, today, are the sick and the elderly, the poor and the needy, and the children and young people who need our help. Jesus, with His suffering and death on the cross, iden fies with our sufferings and with our own death. We are called to unite ourselves to Jesus, and to iden fy with Him and with His death; to unite, as His people.
Thereby, will we create, in us, the eternity of a glorious resurrec on. This is our hope of salva on.
Let us make the journey of Lent in a spirit of reconcilia on with God, with others, and with ourselves. With the true freedom obtained by following Christ, let us mature as free men and women. To Discover who we really are and what God wants from us, is a process that lasts a life me. The journey of Abraham and Sarah to the Promised Land is a good symbol of our own pilgrimage. Trus ng in the promises of God, we walk toward Him, aware of the difficul es we will find during the trip. We may veer off the path because of sin with its many masks, temp ng us to seek happiness elsewhere. However, God's invita on to return to Him is always open; an invita on to be who we are, children of God, and to act accordingly.
He is merciful.
It is Jesus, the Son of God, who teaches us what it means to be God's sons and daughters. Throughout His life, Jesus
discovered what God was calling Him to do. At the top of the mountain, Peter, John and James were witnesses, in a special way, of who Jesus was. But just as Jesus reminded the three apostles, He had to live out His mission, not above from the world...but in it. That was His challenge, and so it is ours.

Queridas familias:
La primera semana de la Cuaresma nos presentaba a Jesús luchando contra el tentador, el diablo. En esta segunda semana cambia el panorama y vemos a Jesús transfigurado delante de Pedro, Juan y San ago. En este episodio, Dios Padre muestra a estos tres discípulos la verdad sobre la iden dad de Jesús: la gloria de la resurrección futura.
Los Discípulos quisieron quedarse con aquel momento de esplendor, pero Jesús les hace ver que hay que volver a esta vida diaria con sus luchas y trabajos, con sus penas y alegrías;
y a la misión de anunciar la paz, la jus cia y el amor de Dios.
Tendremos que luchar en esta vida, pero al final tendremos el triunfo prome do por Jesús.
Así es que la Cuaresma nos llama la atención para que sigamos a Jesús que dedicó su vida al servicio de los demás:
se compadece de los pobres, come con los pecadores, da salud a los enfermos, consuela a los tristes…Junto a nosotros tenemos enfermos y ancianos, pobres y necesitados, niños y jóvenes a los que ayudar, Jesús, con sus sufrimientos y su muerte en la cruz se iden fica con los nuestros y con nuestra propia muerte. Unidos a los suyos y a su muerte creamos en nosotros la eternidad de una resurrección gloriosa. Estamos llamados a unirnos a Jesús y a iden ficarnos con El. Esta es nuestra esperanza de gloria.
Hagamos el cambio de la Cuaresma con espíritu de reconciliación con Dios, con los demás y con nosotros mismos. Maduremos como hombres y mujeres libres, con la verdadera libertad que nos da el seguimiento de Cristo.
Descubrir quienes somos verdaderamente y qué es lo que quiere Dios de nosotros, es un proceso que dura toda la vida.
El viaje de Abrahán y Sara hacia la Tierra Prome da es un buen símbolo de nuestro propio peregrinaje. Confiando en las promesas de Dios, caminamos hacia El, conscientes de las dificultades que encontraremos durante el viaje. Es posible que nos salgamos del camino porque el pecado, con sus muchas máscaras, nos tentará a buscar la felicidad en algún otro si o. Sin embargo, la invitación de Dios de regresar a Él está siempre abierta; una invitación a ser quienes somos, hijos e hijas de Dios, y a actuar como nos corresponde. El es misericordioso.
Es Jesús, el mismo Hijo de Dios, quien nos enseña lo que significa ser hijo e hija de Dios. A lo largo de su vida Jesús descubrió qué era a lo que Dios lo estaba llamando. En la cima de la montaña, Pedro, Juan y San ago fueron tes gos, de una manera especial, de quien era Jesús. Pero al igual que Jesús recordó a los tres apóstoles, él tenía que vivir su misión no alejado del mundo, sino en él. Ese era su reto, y es el nuestro.

The spouse of Mary the mother of Jesus and the legal father of Jesus according to Jewish law, Joseph is a model of humility and obedience to God’s will. He followed God’s instruc ons, given by angels in dreams, and took the pregnant Mary into his home as his wife, protected her and Jesus at the child’s birth in Bethlehem through the family’s sojourn in Egypt, and provided for them as a carpenter in Nazareth.
This feast, which was celebrated locally as early as the ninth century, became a universal feast in the fi eenth century, when it was placed on the liturgical calendar. Pope Pius IX named St. Joseph Patron of the Universal Church in 1870; he is also the patron saint of carpenters, the dying, and workers.
Feast of Saint Joseph Mass - On the Feast of St. Joseph, a Mass in Italian will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 19, at Epiphany Cathedral, 350 Tampa Avenue West, Venice. The Italian American Club of Venice is providing the bread for the St. Joseph Table. The bread will be blessed following Mass in the Parish Hall. All are welcome.

Saint of the Week
Saint Patrick c. 389 - 461 Feast Day - March 17th
The patron saint of Ireland, Patrick was born in Roman Britain. He describes his life and ministry, including his work to convert the Irish people, in his short
autobiography and tes mony, Confessions. Kidnapped at age 16 by Irish raiders and sold into slavery in Ireland, his me spent in cap vity transformed him spiritually. He was a lonely shepherd for six years before escaping and returning home. A er returning home, his dream of conver ng the Irish from pagan belief propelled him to priestly studies in Gaul (now France). In about 432, Pope Celes ne I consecrated him as a bishop and sent him to Ireland. For nearly 30 years, he preached relessly, made countless converts, founded monasteries, and established the prima al see at Armagh in modern-day Northern Ireland. Toward the end of his life, he made a 40-day retreat on Croagh Patrick mountain in present-day County Mayo. That gave rise to the pilgrimages that are made on the mountain to this day. Stories that Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity and drove snakes from the island are unconfirmed legend.

7 REGULATIONS ON FASTING AND ABSTINENCE
Fasting is to be observed on Good Friday (April 15th) by all Catholics between the ages of 18 years and 59 years (inclusive). On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily His Resurrection.
Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older on all Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday.
Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self-denial that are suitable to their condition.
Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.
NORMAS SOBRE EL AYUNO Y LA ABSTINENCIA El ayuno es observado el Viernes Santo (15 de abril) por católicos entre las edades de 18 a 59 años de edad. En un día de ayuno, una comida completa es permitida. Dos comidas pequeñas, son permitidas para mantenerse, pero juntas no deben ser una comida completa. Comer entre comidas no es permitido, pero los líquidos son permitidos. Si es posible, el ayuno debe continuar hasta la vigilia de la Pascua para honrar el sufrimiento y la muerte de nuestro Señor Jesus y para prepararnos a compartir más y estar preparados a la celebración de Su resurección.
