O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church: Grant it love and the light of Your Spirit, and give power to the words of priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord.

Lord, give us holy priests; You Yourself maintain them in holiness.

O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil’s traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests. May the power of Your

mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for You can do all things. AMEN

Do thoughts about the end of the world ever keep you awake at night? Jesus says: “…of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but on- ly the Father.” But it would be the most foolish thing we could ever do if we just shrug our shoulders and say “no one knows so why worry about it?” I’ll tell you why…

because you could die within the hour. You could die to- night. That is why Jesus message for us today is so im- portant: be prepared. Why? Because like it says in the first reading: “Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some shall live forever, others shall be [in] an everlas ng horror and disgrace.”

What that means is that all day long we are in some de- gree helping each other to achieve one of these des na-

ons—some to live in everlas ng happiness, others to live in everlas ng horror. Our heart moves in either direc-

on—either to be our own god or to be humble and de- pendent on God. To be humble and dependent on God means to live in blessed hope.

That is our ministry. We are disciples of the resurrec on.

For the world life is all about this: you are born, you try to live a happy life, and then you die. But it isn’t that way for us. For us, you are born, you die, and then you are resur- rected into the Kingdom of Heaven. The world as we know it will not last. But that will be only the beginning.

Like the Book of Revela on says, there will be a “new heaven and a new earth”—a new world in which there will be no more sickness, no more suffering, no more pain, no more evil, no more terrorism, and no more death (Rev. 21:1-4). And there will be a resurrec on. Not a re- suscita on of our bodies like they are today. But a radical and complete transforma on in which we will become like the Angels in heaven (Mk 12:25). Like it says in the first reading, we will live like shining stars forever—

permanent—indestruc ble--forever.

That is why this Advent we are going to prepare for Christmas by praying “Come Lord Jesus!” (Jn. 22:20) All we have to do it trust in God and be prepared. Be pre- pared for the coming tribula on. Be prepared for the coming of the Son of Man. Be prepared! That means our dying and rising begins right now, right here--in this life-

me. That is your ministry as a disciple of the resurrec- on. Like Jesus said, you and I are supposed to be like a fig tree that sprouts leaves in the Spring me. We sprout leaves to become a sign—a sign that tes fies to the King- dom of God and transforms the world into the Kingdom of God.

That means you are a sign that makes Jesus Christ pre- sent in the world, by bringing a paradox to the world--the message of hope. How? By the way you live your life.

What is that message of hope? …that we are not alone, that we are never alone…God is with us in our trials and suffering.

Where does that hope come from? It comes from when we trust in God—when we trust that God will bring us into everlas ng life where we will shine like stars forever.

You are the shining star of that living message: Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you. The greatest among you is the one who serves. “Woman, has no one condemned you? Neither will I condemn you.” Forgive seventy mes seven mes” (Mt 18:22).

So let us start to prepare. Christmas is only 36 days away.

Be prepared, trust in God, and become that blessed mes- sage of hope that will turn the world upside down by liv- ing a life that says “Come Lord Jesus.”
